answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/02/2019 answer text <p>Digital advertising is a cost-effective way for the government to recruit nurses, promote blood donations, find out about pensions and all the other important information the public needs to be aware of.</p><p>The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has spent £14,955.67 on Facebook and £63,865.00 on Instagram promoted activity since 2014.</p><p>The figures set out in the table below do not include any recruitment promotion as there is no record held centrally. If we were to provide this data, it would involve working with 24 recruitment leads across Defra, therefore could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. The number of BCG doses made available for badger vaccination was limited in 2017 due to a global shortage and the need to prioritise supplies for human vaccination. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/01/2019 answer text <p>Landowners and private groups across England can apply to Natural England for a licence to vaccinate badgers against TB. Animal &amp; Plant Health Agency (APHA) provides training for those who wish undertake such vaccination and Defra provides financial support for projects within the Edge Area under the Badger Edge Vaccination Scheme (BEVS).</p><p>BEVS, relaunched in 2018 following a global vaccine shortage, provides matched funding and training for groups that want to take part. Three groups were successful with their applications in 2018. On 13 September 2018 we re-opened the scheme and asked for expressions of interest from those wishing to apply to vaccinate from 2019. The application process closes on 25 January 2019.</p><p>A long-standing research programme at APHA to identify an oral vaccine and a palatable bait in which to deliver it is also ongoing. An efficacy study is currently in progress, with results due later this year.</p><p>We are currently considering the report of the TB Strategy review, conducted by a team led by Professor Sir Charles Godfray, the scope of which includes badger vaccination. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/01/2019 answer text <p>Forestry Commission statistics published as part of their Corporate Performance Indicators on 13 November 2018 indicate that at the end of September 2018 at least 15.2 million trees have been planted since April 2010 with government support, equivalent to approximately 12,900 hectares of woodland. Annual figures are provided in the same report.</p><p> </p><p>A separate report has been produced by the Forestry Commission using the best available information <em>New Planting of Trees Supported by the Rural Development Programme for England, and other forms of Government Support; April 2010 to September 2018. </em>This gives a breakdown of government supported planting by region, local authority area and parliamentary constituency. A draft copy of this report, which is subject to further review, has been placed in the library. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/01/2019 answer text <p>I have zero tolerance of the abhorrent crime that is puppy smuggling, where unscrupulous dealers are abusing the EU Pet Travel Scheme to illegally traffic puppies into the United Kingdom, with no regard for the welfare of these animals or the biosecurity of the UK. Defra are pursuing a holistic approach to tackling puppy smuggling, which includes working closely with Dogs Trust to tackle the issue. Defra Ministers met senior staff from the charity in November, to discuss the findings of their latest report.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>It is already a requirement for every dog in the UK to be identified by a microchip and its details to be recorded on a recognised database. This includes dogs imported from outside the UK. Furthermore, all pets entering the UK have their microchip scanned and recorded by the carrier at the time of travel. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/01/2019 answer text <p>Engagement at the border with major transport carriers has indicated that they are committed to preventing illegal imports of pet animals. Some carriers have already instituted their own measures to reduce carriage of pet animals. This includes P&amp;O Ferries refusing accounts to commercial dog importers and Eurotunnel limiting the number of dogs that can be transported in one vehicle. Carriers have been willing to work with us to increase enforcement through additional training, checks and controls.</p><p>Each carrier is subject to quality assurance checks including a minimum of one full audit per year to ensure compliance with the procedures agreed with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) set out in the carriers’ Required Method of Operation (RMOP). The number of quality assurance visits is based on volumes, results of previous visits, performance and any high risk considerations. Furthermore, APHA field teams carry out liaison visits and are in regular communication with carriers.
