answer text
The Department for Education has not estimated potential savings from the Q&A system over the periods requested. We have also made no assessment of the extent to which the system has made it easier to answer questions on time.

The system has, however, been welcomed by the Department. It is now easier and quicker to submit answers to parliamentary questions online, compared to the previous process of submitting answers in hard copy.

The Department is currently developing a new IT system to handle its parliamentary questions and wider correspondence. While this system would have been introduced without the introduction of the Q&A system, we understand that the two systems will be compatible and this could lead to a more efficient process for receiving questions and submitting answers in future.

more like this

answer text
Since June 2014, Ministers in the Department for Education have received 5 letters and have had one meeting with an MP on the subject of funding for rural schools. The Government recognises the importance of rural schools, many of which are small schools, and the need to maintain access to a local school in rural areas. The Department has enabled local authorities and Schools Forums to support small rural schools by allowing funding to be allocated via a ‘sparsity factor’. Sparsity funding is additional funding given to small schools serving pupils who would have to travel a long distance to any alternative school.

In addition, the Department has recently made an additional £390 million available to the least fairly funded local authorities through the introduction of minimum funding levels. Many local authorities with small rural schools have benefited from this policy, and will see increases in their per-pupil funding.

more like this

answer text
The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework requires all nurseries and all pre-schools to have on duty a trained pediatric first aider. They must be on the premises at all times when children are present and accompany children on outings. Although providers are required to take into account the number of children, staff and layout of premises to ensure that a pediatric first aider is able to respond to emergencies quickly, in a recent debate, initiated by the hard work of the parents of Millie Thompson and founders of Millie’s Trust, I committed to undertaking a review of the first aid requirements to see if there is any further action needed on this important issue.
more like this
