answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/02/2019 answer text <p>Advertising in the UK is regulated by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the industry’s independent regulator, which enforces the Advertising Codes through a system of self-regulation and co-regulation with Ofcom. The Codes incorporate all relevant legislation and sets standards for accuracy and honesty to which advertisers must adhere, including specific conditions on social responsibility.</p><p> </p><p>With regard to payday loans, guidance relating to the advertising of high-cost short-term credit products is available to advertisers, to ensure that their advertising is compliant with the Advertising Codes, by being socially responsible and not trivialising the seriousness of taking out a loan. At the same time, the Financial Conduct Authority, responsible for regulation of the consumer credit market including payday lenders since 1 April 2014, has introduced a tough set of detailed rules regarding firms’ promotions and advertisements, which operate alongside the Advertising Codes. The Government does not hold data centrally on the effect of advertising on take-up of payday loans.</p><p> </p><p>With regard to gambling machines, the Advertising Codes contain provisions to ensure gambling advertising does not target or appeal particularly to children or young people, or exploit vulnerable people. Gambling companies who advertise in the UK must comply with these rules. In practice, most advertising of gambling products does not involve gaming machines. In the Future Telecoms Infrastructure Review, the Government stated its view that the development of a set of innovative 5G services and new investment models may require more flexible approaches to spectrum licensing. The consultation outlined options for cutting the maximum stake of Fixed-Odds Betting Terminals to between £50 and £2 and invited views. The consultation closed on 23 January. On 19 March the Gambling Commission published its advice. Last week, Ofcom concluded an auction for spectrum in the 2.3 and 3.4 GHz bands. This placed more 4G spectrum and the first spectrum for new 5G services into the hands of mobile operators. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/02/2018 answer text <p><del class="ministerial">The Government and local bodies together are investing £1.7 billion of public money to support vital improvements in broadband services across the UK. Superfast broadband coverage reached 95% of premises in December 2017 – up from 45% in 2010. Many of the premises reached had exchange only lines.</del></p><p> </p><p><del class="ministerial">For any premises not covered by superfast broadband, as confirmed in our announcement in December 2017, we are pushing ahead with our plans for a Universal Service Obligation (USO) so that by 2020 everyone across the UK will have a clear, enforceable right to request 10 Megabit per second broadband.</del></p><p> </p><p><del class="ministerial">Within London the Government expects superfast broadband coverage to be provided by the private sector and is encouraging providers to tackle remaining issues including exchange only lines.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">Consumers can register their landline and mobile telephone numbers with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), which helps prevent them receiving unsolicited nuisance marketing calls. The TPS is a free service and consumers can register at the following address: http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/number_type.html.</ins><br /></p><p><ins class="ministerial">In addition, phone companies provide consumers with a range of services to protect them against nuisance calls. It is for phone companies to decide whether to offer these services for free or for a charge. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/02/2018 answer text <p>Protecting children and the vulnerable from being harmed or exploited by gambling is a core objective of the regulation of gambling in Great Britain, and a priority for the Government.</p><p> </p><p>Online gambling operators must carry out age verification checks for any UK resident who deposits money using any type of payment method other than a credit card.
