Such a case was brought to our attention in 2013 and UK officials raised the issue with the US Department of Defense at the time. All Armed Forces personnel are supported by dedicated and comprehensive medical services, including mental health support. Current Service personnel are provided with pre- and post-operational stress management training, psychiatric and psychological treatments, and initiatives such as Trauma Risk Incident Management (TRiM - peer to peer support after a traumatic incident). The Ministry of Defence announced in October 2017 a new partnership with the Royal Foundation which will provide resources for training and education for the Armed Forces Community around good Mental Fitness.</p><p> </p><p>Further measures introduced to support Armed Forces personnel include a new 24-hour mental health helpline targeted at serving personnel and their families allowing them to access support for any mental health problems anytime, anywhere.</p><p> </p><p>For those who took part in Operation Herrick, but have left Service, the NHS in England and the Devolved Administrations are responsible for healthcare, including mental healthcare, for veterans. Veterans’ health is broadly aligned with that of the rest of the general population and most veterans’ health requirements are sufficiently met by existing NHS provision. However, several tailored initiatives are already in place to cater for specific veteran needs, including priority access to NHS secondary care in England, Scotland and Wales for Service related conditions, subject to the clinical need of all patients.</p><p> </p><p>Further measures to improve support to veterans include the recently announced Veterans Strategy: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/strategy-for-our-veterans" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/strategy-for-our-veterans</a>. By 2028 we will be doing more to ensure that each veteran is valued, contributing and supported. One of our aims is that all veterans enjoy a state of positive physical and mental health and wellbeing, enabling them to contribute to wider aspects of society. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/11/2017 answer text <p>The UK is committed to supporting our current and former local staff in Afghanistan, and our well-established ex-gratia redundancy scheme recognises their contribution and the debt of gratitude we owe them. Eligible former staff who were made redundant as a result of the UK drawdown can choose between: an in-country package of up to five years of training along with financial support (this option can also be 'gifted' to immediate family members); a financial package of 18 months' salary; and for eligible former staff who worked in a frontline role for 12 months or more, the option to apply to relocate to the UK with their spouse and children.</p><p>As of 31 October 2017, over 380 former local staff and their families have relocated to the UK under this scheme, over 1,000 people in total. Of these, approximately 350 worked for the Ministry of Defence; the others worked for the Foreign Office or the Department for International Development. There are around 50 more former staff who are awaiting relocation. The majority of those who have relocated worked as interpreters, however some staff who worked in other roles, such as cultural advisers, have also relocated under the scheme. The vast majority of those eligible for relocation - around 90 per cent - chose this option; however, some elected to remain in Afghanistan and take up one of the other offers available under the scheme. Our core outputs are improving the capability of the Afghan security institutions, developing the Afghan National Army Officer Academy, mentoring the Afghan Air Force and providing vital support for NATO in Kabul through command of the Kabul Security Force.</p><p>We maintain regular dialogue with NATO on the future of the mission in Afghanistan, including through the UK Delegation to NATO, our team working in Resolute Support Headquarters in Kabul, and at meetings of NATO Chief of Defence Staffs, the last of which was held in January. My right hon. Our Armed Forces are committed to assisting the Afghan Government and we will continue to stand together with our Afghan and NATO partners to build a more peaceful, secure and prosperous future for the country.</p><p>Although our combat mission has ended, the support the UK provides on issues such as security, development and governance is crucial to building a stable state and reducing the terrorist threat to the UK. All those who deployed to Afghanistan will have been eligible to receive the medal if they met the qualifying criteria. There is a long-standing rule that decisions taken with regards to medallic recognition should not be revisited once five years have passed since the conclusion of a military operation.
