answer text
Unlike the concluding observations which the CEDAW Committee issues to the UK specifically after each of our periodic examinations, General Recommendations are issued by the Committee to all 188 States which are party to the Convention. That means that not all the General Recommendations will actually be relevant to the UK's circumstances and policies, and it is not the normal practice of the Government to respond specifically to the publication of General Recommendations.

If a General Recommendation is relevant to the UK, then the Committee will assess us against it during our periodic examination. We will receive their evaluation and we will have the opportunity to respond fully at that stage. The Government has, however, noted the publication of General Recommendation No. 32 on the gender-related dimensions of refugee status, asylum, nationality and statelessness of women by the Committee, and the content has been conveyed to the Home Office.

The Home Office will of course be able to answer any specific questions the noble Lord has on female interviewers and interpreters for women asylum applicants.

The organisation is currently investing over £171 million to get more disabled people playing sport, including over £47 million to make sports facilities more accessible. Through its Get Equipped fund, Sport England has invested £1.15 million into 141 local sports clubs to purchase disability equipment. All of Sport England’s major capital investments are required to make their facilities accessible. To support designers, building owners and operators create accessible facilities Sport England publishes online tools and guidance. answer text
Ofcom, the UK Regulator for Telecoms, oversees the General Conditions of Entitlement (GCEs), the rules under which Telecoms companies must operate in the UK. GC 9.6 provides consumer protection in the event of mid-contract variations. Under GC 9.6, providers must give customers notice of contract modifications (e.g. price rises) likely to cause ‘material detriment’ to them and the right to exit the contract without penalty in response. Ofcom published guidance at the start of this year clarifying these rules and further enabling competition in the market to deliver a choice of competitive tariffs for the consumer in the UK.
Major telecoms companies have also agreed to work with the Government and Ofcom on ways to improve transparency in contracts in line with the principles underpinning the Ofcom guidance. The Government and the Regulator will continue to work with the industry to promote further ways of ensuring that consumers have the best possible information to help them make informed choices about the communications services they purchase.

Currently over half of all young people (54.5%) play sport once a week and almost a quarter of a million more young people are playing sport today than in 2005 when London won the bid to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Specific targets for young people have been agreed with each national governing body of sport. Sport England is also running programmes specifically targeting young people including Sportivate which over the last two years has given almost 400,000 young people the opportunity to take up a new sport. Over 2000 satellite clubs have been set up across England to reduce the number of young people who stop playing sport after leaving school.
more like this

answer text
Tourism is a devolved matter, and domestic holiday marketing to British residents is carried out by the tourist boards of each constituent part of the United Kingdom. Nevertheless, VisitEngland’s ‘Holidays at Home are GREAT’ campaigns have also benefited the Devolved Administrations by promoting domestic holidays throughout the United Kingdom, not just in England. The campaign, now in its third year, has received £9.3 million funding from the Government, which has been match-funded by the private sector and other tourism partners. These campaigns have been promoted through various media channels including mainstream terrestrial channels, cinemas and via the web. The first two campaigns generated £380m in extra visitor spend, and the current campaign has been marketed through media channels since 1 April 2014. VisitEngland’s Growing Tourism Locally programme, which received £19.8 million from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund, specifically aims to inspire UK residents to take more holidays in England.
