I have therefore asked the Authority to respond.</p><p> </p><p>Dear Lord Hayward,</p><p>As National Statistician and Chief Executive of the UK Statistics Authority, I am responding to your Parliamentary Question asking about the steps taken by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to ensure that parliamentary constituency boundary data for 1 March is made available promptly to the Boundary Commissions ahead of the next review of constituency boundaries (HL9840).</p><p>The publication of Electoral Statistics for the 2 March 2020 is scheduled for the beginning of January 2021 and we are confident of publishing at this time. The publication was originally scheduled for October 2020 but problems with Electoral Registration Officers in England and Scotland supplying the required data to ONS and National Records for Scotland meant that the release was delayed. We have been in regular contact with the Cabinet Office and the Boundary Commissions for England and Wales to ensure that any issues are appropriately addressed. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/04/2020 answer text <p>The Conservative Government committed, in its 2019 Manifesto, to delivering updated and equal UK Parliamentary boundaries with the essential aim of making sure that every vote counts the same - a cornerstone of democracy.</p><p>In the written statement of 24 March, ‘Update: Strengthening Democracy’ (<a href="https://www.parliament.uk/business/publications/written-questions-answers-statements/written-statement/Commons/2020-03-24/HCWS183/" target="_blank">HCWS183</a>), the Government set out its policy position in relation to the boundaries of UK Parliamentary constituencies. The statement noted that legislation currently provides that, on implementation of the 2018 Boundary Review recommendations, the number of constituencies in the UK shall be 600, and that the Government is instead minded to make provision for the number of parliamentary constituencies to remain at 650. This is a change in policy from the position previously legislated for under the Coalition Government. Since that policy was established in the Coalition Agreement, the United Kingdom has left the European Union. The UK Parliament will have a greater workload now we are taking back control, abolishing MEPs and regaining our political and economic independence. The current and proposed overseas voting arrangements are based on the principle that overseas electors continue to have some form of connection to the area of the country where they were last resident. This is the approach taken generally in other democracies with overseas voting.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The creation of overseas constituencies would also require changes to the way that electoral administration (the registration of voters and the conduct of polls) is organised in Great Britain, where responsibility lies at the local authority level. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/06/2017 answer text <p>During the 2015-17 Parliament, each Boundary Commission spent approximately the following on the conduct of the current Boundary Review which is due to report in 2018:</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>(a) Scotland - £380,000</p><p>(b) England - £2,711,000</p><p>(c) Northern Ireland - £374,000</p><p>(d) Wales - £441,000</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The Sixth Periodic Review of constituency boundaries was due to report in 2013, though it was moved to 2018 following an amendment to the Electoral Registration and Administration (ERA) Act 2013.
