answer text <p>We are increasing spending on R&amp;D by £7 billion over 5 years by 2021-22. This will be the largest increase ever.</p><p> </p><p>The allocation of research and innovation funding for 2017-2021 was published in August 2018 and can be found online at <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/research-and-innovation-funding-allocation-2017-to-2021" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/research-and-innovation-funding-allocation-2017-to-2021</a>.</p><p>UKRI and its councils published their Delivery Plans on 10 June as part of their UKRI 2019 event (<a href="http://www.UKRI.org/deliveryplans" target="_blank">www.UKRI.org/deliveryplans</a>). These plans include the information about allocations for 2019-20, with a total UKRI annual budget of £7.5billion.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>As part of the Government’s commitment to increase overall investment in R&amp;D to 2.4% of GDP by 2027, which would be the highest recorded level, and 3% in the longer-term. We are building capacity in a number of ways.</p><p> </p><p>For example, we are boosting capacity in artificial intelligence through new AI Masters and AI Centres for Doctoral Training, delivering 1,000 additional PhDs in AI and Turing AI Fellows.</p><p> </p><p>We are also boosting capacity in specific places across the UK, building on R&amp;D strengths through our Strength in Places Fund. Twenty-four ambitious projects from pharmaceuticals to aerospace, and transport to the creative economy, are to receive early-stage funding to develop full-stage bids that could lead to significant economic growth in places across the country.</p> more like this

answer text <p>At Spending Review 2015, the Government protected science funding, committing to invest £26.3 billion between 2016-21, and has since committed to an additional £7 billion by 2021-22 – the largest increase ever. The terms of the Withdrawal Agreement, if ratified, would provide for continued UK participation in EU Programmes, including Horizon 2020, to December 2020 and for the lifetime of projects under the programme. If an agreement is reached, projects approved during this period will be able to continue with an uninterrupted flow of EU funding. If we leave the EU without a deal in place, the underwrite guarantee and extension are Government commitments to provide funding required for the UK to participate in Horizon 2020 until the end of 2020 and for the lifetime of projects. In this scenario, HM Treasury will provide additional funding on top of existing departmental budgets – further demonstrating the Government’s commitment to the UK’s world-class research base.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Through our modern Industrial Strategy we have committed to the highest R&amp;D increase on record. We have announced increases in public R&amp;D spending worth £7bn up to 2021/2022, and we are working with UK Research and Innovation and other key partners to develop a roadmap that sets out how government and industry will work together to reach our target of increasing R&amp;D investment to 2.4% of GDP by 2027, which would be the highest recorded level, and 3% in the longer-term. The roadmap will be published following the Spending Review, which my rt. hon. Friend Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced will conclude this Autumn.</p> more like this

answer text <p>UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is committed to supporting international collaboration and promoting opportunities for doing so. The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), the Newton Fund and the Fund for International Collaboration (FIC) are all specific avenues for UK researchers and innovators to develop international partnerships.</p><p> </p><p>Information about funding available for international collaboration is available on the UKRI website, as well as on individual Research Council websites. Information about funded research and innovation is available through Gateway to Research, including projects funded through the GCRF, the Newton Fund and the FIC. Social media platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, additionally allow UKRI to advertise opportunities for funding.</p><p> </p><p>UKRI works closely with the Research Organisation Consultation Group to disseminate funding information through UK research organisations. The UK Science and Innovation Network (operated as part of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office), and Universities UK International are also well placed to promote these opportunities.</p>
