In 2018, electricity generation from bioenergy was a record 35.6 TWh which constituted 32% of electricity generated from renewable sources.<sup>1</sup></p><p> </p><p>As set out in the Clean Air Strategy, we are also reviewing the air quality impacts of biomass to ensure that our energy policies can jointly tackle climate change and improve air quality. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/04/2019 answer text <p>Sustainable biomass has an important role to play in our electricity mix as it can help balance demand on the grid by being dispatchable, balancing out intermittent renewables like solar and wind.</p><p> </p><p>We are committed to keeping energy costs as low as possible and subsidies for biomass are monitored through the Levy Control Framework. Biomass plants only receive subsidy for the electricity output which complies with our sustainability criteria</p><p> </p><p>We have consistently stated that we see the use of biomass conversions as a transitional technology. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/04/2017 answer text <p>In 2015/16, all woodchip used in the electricity sector was sourced from the UK, with a very small amount from Ireland (less than 0.1% of biomass in 2015/16<sup><sup>[1]</sup></sup>). Almost all woodchip used in the Renewable Heat Incentive was sourced from the UK, with a small amount from European sources.
