	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/06/2020 answer text <p>The Government has frozen regulated rail fares in line with inflation for the seventh year in a row.</p><p> </p><p>The future introduction of HS2 will help improve the quality of rail travel across Coventry and the West Midlands, but there are initiatives that are making a real difference now:</p><p> </p><ul><li><p>In May 2019, West Midlands Trains (WMT) introduced through services and longer trains between Leamington and Nuneaton via Coventry.</p></li></ul><p> </p><ul><li><p>WMT is investing £700million to introduce 180 brand new carriages and add 20,000 more peak hour seats into Birmingham in the next couple of years.</p><p> </p></li><li><p>Subject to the approval of Avanti’s proposal by the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), Walsall will receive its first direct Intercity West Coast services to London in 2021, while Coventry and the West Midlands are due to benefit from additional services on weekends from 2021, and earlier weekday morning services from December 2022.</p></li></ul><p> </p><ul><li><p>We are investing to provide additional carriages to increase capacity on CrossCountry (XC) services at Coventry and across the West Midlands from 2021.</p></li></ul><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> answering member constituency Daventry answering member printed Chris Heaton-Harris question first answered 23/06/2020 13:28:34 answering member 3977 label Biography information for Chris Heaton-Harris

This included a £225 million Emergency Active Travel Fund (EATF) which is enabling local authorities across England to put in new cycling and walking infrastructure. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/03/2021 answer text <p>The Government takes very seriously the safety of cyclists and other vulnerable road users, and is committed to reducing the rate of cyclists killed or seriously injured on England’s roads. In July 2020 the Prime Minister launched ambitious plans to boost cycling and walking, with the ambition that half of all journeys in towns and cities are cycled or walked by 2030. This includes a £2 billion package of funding for active travel over 5 years, which is the largest ever boost for cycling and walking, and will deliver transformational change and improve safety for people cycling.</p><p> </p><p>One of the commitments within the plan, which will improve safety for people cycling, is to deliver the review of the Highway Code promised in the 2018 Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy Safety Review. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/06/2021 answer text <p>On 15 March the Government launched England’s long-term National Bus Strategy, setting out a bold vision for bus services across the country. Backed by £3 billion of transformational funding, the strategy’s central aim is to get more people travelling by bus, by making services more frequent, more reliable, easier to understand and use, better co-ordinated and cheaper. The Williams-Shapps Rail Review was launched in May and set out a series of measures to support the government’s vision for the UK to have a world-class railway, recognising that the railways must become better at meeting passenger needs to avoid a society dependent on the car.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise the need to provide better value and a more convenient option to meet the needs of flexible commuters, which is why we are introducing new rail flexible season tickets across England. These tickets will be available to purchase on 21 June and valid from 28 June, and will offer most 2 and 3 day per week commuters savings against buying daily tickets or traditional seasons. Many incorporate the message that passengers must wear face coverings on public transport and at indoor transport hubs. There are a range of face covering materials, many of which include exemptions for age, health or disability reasons as well as consequences for those who are not exempt and do not comply. The department has not printed any of these materials itself, instead we have ensured that transport operators, local authorities and partners across England have had access to these resources allowing them to download, print and display these messages as appropriate. Our materials have been downloaded over 3,700 times and sent to over 250 stakeholders since face coverings became mandatory. We also shared the materials on the department’s social media channels and amplified supporting content from stakeholders.
