answer text <p>The Government is ensuring the railway plays its part in delivering our ambitions to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and to reduce air pollution created by transport.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to expand the electrified rail network where it delivers passenger and environmental benefits and value for money. This allows removal of diesel trains. For example from this month electric trains can run between London and Cardiff.</p><p> </p><p>Network Rail is developing a Traction Decarbonisation Network Strategy to inform Government decisions on the scale and pace of further rail decarbonisation, and the reduced use of diesel trains that this will require.</p> more like this

In addition, we have already cut costs for thousands of young people with the 16-17 Saver railcard, and announced our intention to establish a new ‘fares trials fund’ to explore the benefits and costs of a clearer, more flexible and fairer fares system. answer text <p>This was a decision made by TfL; however, the Oyster system, developed nearly 20 years ago, cannot accommodate additional fare zones. The DfT has recently worked with TfL to extend pay-as-you-go (PAYG) to Luton Airport and Welwyn Garden City, and in both cases the extensions involved TfL’s Contactless system but not Oyster. We are exploring with TfL how to extend the benefits of PAYG to those who receive concessionary or discounted travel, but in the meantime these passengers can continue to buy discounted tickets in advance of travel.</p> more like this

The Department for Transport is analysing the consultation responses and finalising the regulatory impact assessment. answer text <p>The responsibility for local highways maintenance in London is a devolved matter and therefore falls to Transport for London (TfL) and the London boroughs.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is providing local highways authorities in England (outside of London) over £6.6 billion between 2015 and 2020 for local highways maintenance. Every local highway authority in England (outside London) receives maintenance funding based on a formula that considers local factors such as road length, bridges, and street lighting. Highways authorities are able to prioritise their spending as they wish in order to meet local needs.</p> more like this

answer text <p>I can confirm that the Department has committed to supporting the Charter where this is relevant to our commercial activities and where consistent with the relevant public procurement regulations. This position has been communicated to UK Steel.</p><p> </p><p>Government’s guidance on the procurement of steel was published in November 2015 and subsequently updated in December 2016. In DfT steel is only purchased directly by Network Rail, and they source approximately 93% percent of their steel from the UK. Both Highways England and High Speed Two Ltd procure steel through their respective supply chains. The guidance has been fully adopted by DfT for all in-scope projects and we are required to report on its implementation.</p> more like this
