star this property answer text <p>In July 2018 the Department published its Inclusive Transport Strategy, with the intention of supporting a transport network which enables disabled people to travel easily, confidently and without additional cost. Disabled people make twice as many journeys by taxi and private hire vehicle (PHV) as non-disabled people and it is essential that operators and authorities play their part in making this a reality.</p><p> </p><p>The Government plans to update guidance to local licensing authorities on the provision of an inclusive service, including the appropriate treatment of passengers with assistance dogs.</p><p> </p><p>In the meantime I urge authorities to ensure that drivers receive suitable disability awareness training and that robust action is taken against those who discriminate illegally against disabled passengers.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Later in the year, the Department plans to publish best practice guidance on the provision of disability awareness training in the bus sector, which was informed by the experience of disabled passengers, bus operators and training providers. We hope that by sharing across the whole bus industry some of the good practice already benefiting passengers in many areas of the country, we will ensure that disabled passengers can board any service with confidence that the driver will provide them with the help they need.</p><p> </p><p>The Department publishes annual bus statistics which include an assessment of the proportion of local bus operators which require their staff to complete training consistent with the European Regulation. The most recent release indicated that 98% of drivers work for companies which fulfil this requirement</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to ensuring disabled people of all ages have the same access to transport and opportunities to travel as everyone else.</p><p> </p><p>In July 2018 the Department published the Inclusive Transport Strategy. Its ambition is to create a transport system that provides equal access for disabled people by 2030, and to enable disabled people to travel confidently, easily and without extra cost.</p><p> </p><p>In July 2019, the Department reported to Parliament on the progress it had made in delivering the many commitments set out in the Strategy.</p><p> </p> more like this

It is a great opportunity to set out the Government’s innovative agenda highlighted in Maritime 2050.</p><p> </p><p>We have spent around £25,000 in previous years (2013, 2015 and 2017). At present, however, we have no plans to apply financial penalties where they do not exist.</p><p> </p><p>Responsibility for road and rail transport accessibility in Northern Ireland is devolved to the Northern Ireland Executive.</p> more like this

People with Chron's Disease and other Inflammatory bowel disease conditions could receive a badge if they meet the eligibility criteria. The aim of the new expanded criteria is to ensure that those with non-visible conditions with the greatest needs have equal access to badges.</p><p> </p><p>It is for the relevant local authority to decide if an applicant meets the eligibility criteria.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Disability awareness and equality training can provide taxi and private hire vehicle (PHV) drivers with the skills, knowledge and confidence to give disabled passengers the assistance they need. I encourage all licensing authorities to use their existing powers to require drivers to undertaken this in advance of its inclusion in national minimum standards in licensing.</p><p> </p><p>As stated in the Government response to the report by the Chair of the Task and Finish Group on Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Licensing, we will bring forward legislation when Parliamentary time allows.</p><p> </p> more like this
