star this property answer text <p>Following the publication of the National Bus Strategy, my Department continues to work with representatives from the bus industry and local authorities to ensure they have the right technical, commercial, marketing and governance arrangements to design and deliver smart, multi-operator bus ticketing.</p><p> </p><p>Schemes may make use of existing smartcard and smartphone ticketing. However, the Strategy recognises many users will wish to use their contactless bank cards, with fare capping in place.</p><p> </p><p>My Department also works with and encourages the wider rail industry to further roll out advances in ticketing and retailing to make travel more convenient.</p> more like this

We have also recently introduced flexible season tickets for those who are travelling two or three days a week.</li></ul><p> </p><ul><li>Many local authorities also offer multi-modal travel schemes for their cities and region.</li></ul><p> </p><ul><li>Any changes or concessions made to rail fares policy must consider not only the effect on a certain individual or group but must also be balanced against the financial impact on fare payers in general and the public purse.</li></ul><p> </p><ul><li>Our National Bus Strategy sets out what we want to see on fares, including low flat fares (or maximum fares and daily price caps) to be the norm within cities and towns.</li></ul><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>My Department is currently in negotiations with train operators as part of the smart ticketing programme, and I expect these negotiations to conclude by the end of November. The agreements reached, alongside collaborative working with Scotland, Transport for London and Transport for the North, will see the delivery of smartcard acceptance across the whole franchised rail network by the end of 2018, using a common standard, and building on previous government investment in rail industry smart ticketing systems.</p> more like this
