star this property answer text <p>The Leeds-Manchester line is being developed as part of Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR). Transport for the North has developed and submitted a business case for NPR to the Government. As announced by the Prime Minister, we are accelerating work with Transport for the North to reach a deal in the Autumn, which will, amongst other things, consider potential specification of the route, timescales for delivery, and costs.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Local stakeholders have championed the reinstatement of the Colne-Skipton railway line and work is currently progressing to assess the proposed scheme and determine if it can be made affordable, will attract sufficient traffic, and is part of the right long-term solution for trans-Pennine rail traffic.</p><p> </p><p>We expect to receive the results later this year to inform a decision as to whether the scheme should progress to the ‘develop’ stage of the Government’s Rail Network Enhancements Pipeline. This is part of our new approach to rail enhancements to ensure we address the needs of passengers and freight, and that funding commitments appropriately reflect the stage of development of schemes.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Autumn Budget 2017 announced funding for the Trans-Pennine Initiative, as part of the National Productivity Investment Fund. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport is currently working with Network Rail to deliver gigabit-cable fibre infrastructure along the existing rail route between Manchester and York. This project is nearing completion, and announcements will be expected later in 2019. This reflects the Government’s commitment to improve telecoms on the railway network and for rural communities.</p><p> </p> more like this

Whilst Transport for the North’s plans for NPR are at an earlier stage of development, they are being designed to complement HS2 and transform connectivity across the north of England.</p><p> </p><p>We are currently consulting on proposals to include passive provision for two future junctions that would one day allow NPR trains to use the HS2 route into Manchester and vice versa. These proposals have been developed with Transport for the North, and, in the future, could allow a potential new route between Manchester and Liverpool that could also be used for services between London and Liverpool.</p> more like this

North of England services are operated by a number of operators, including both those that operate wholly within the North and those that operate North-South. The Industry has introduced changes to their timetables and train plans to improve timetable resilience and improve service performance.
