answer text <p>I was disappointed that the parties were unable to reach an accommodation before the 21 October deadline. Getting Stormont back up and running remains my absolute priority, and I will do everything in my power to make it happen before the 13 January deadline. answer text <p>Restoring the Executive and the Assembly remains my absolute priority. It is my firm view that the people of Northern Ireland need their elected representatives back in Government to take important decisions on the issues that matter most to them.</p><p> </p><p>The parties remain engaged and are demonstrating a willingness to find solutions to the remaining critical issues; a renewed determination to find agreement will be needed if the process is to conclude in the coming weeks. answer text <p>Since May, the five main Northern Ireland parties have engaged in a series of cross-party talks, focused on the key issues that are central to restoring the power-sharing institutions. I am doing everything I can to support the political parties in coming to an agreement, including continuing having detailed discussions with everyone involved.</p><p> </p><p>The report I laid before the House on Wednesday 4 September contains a fuller update on the progress towards restoring the Executive.</p><p> </p><p>The people of Northern Ireland deserve strong political leadership from locally elected politicians.
