star this property answer text <p>As I recently wrote to the honourable Member, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland is determined to do everything in her power to ensure that the victims and survivors of historical institutional abuse get the redress they deserve as quickly as possible. That is why she asked the Northern Ireland political parties to consider the outstanding key issues identified by David Sterling, Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, and is pleased the parties have reached a consensus on these.</p><p> </p><p>The Executive Office is now working with the Office of Legislative Council to redraft the legislation in light of the parties’ recommendations, which deviate significantly from Sir Anthony Hart's recommendations. The Secretary of State continues to engage with David Sterling and colleagues in Westminster on this vital issue.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

A locally elected, democratically accountable devolved government will mean that decisions affecting the people of Northern Ireland can be taken by locally elected ministers as soon as possible. The Secretary of State also recognises the importance of providing clarity on this issue, and is currently considering the recent judgment and the next steps.</p><p> </p><p>The Northern Ireland Civil Service is in the midst of the appointment process for an Interim Advocate and expects the post to be filled shortly.</p><p> </p> more like this

I urge anyone who has been affected or has an interest to contribute to this consultation and put forward their views.</p><p> </p><p>The UK Government’s priority in Northern Ireland continues to be the restoration of the NI Executive. If, despite best efforts, the NI Executive has not been restored by the time the consultation process ends we will consider what the next steps are in the absence of NI Executive Ministers.</p><p><strong> </strong></p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry was established by the Northern Ireland Executive, and Sir Anthony Hart’s report was provided to the Northern Ireland Executive. The responsibility for implementing the recommendations remains a devolved matter. That being said I welcome the preparatory work being taken forward by the Executive Office, to enable action to be taken swiftly once an Executive is restored.</p> more like this
