star this property answer text <p>Policing is a devolved matter in Northern Ireland and operational capability is a matter for the Chief Constable. The PSNI’s main budget is allocated by the Department of Justice from the Northern Ireland block grant.</p><p> </p><p>The UK Government has provided the PSNI with the additional security funding it has asked for and needs to ensure that they have the resource (including officers) to tackle the SEVERE threat from Northern Ireland related terrorism. This additional security funding boosts PSNI’s ability to tackle the terrorist threat while ensuring day-to-day policing isn’t compromised.</p><p> </p><p>PSNI received £230m additional security funding in the last parliament and £160m in this one. In addition, the UK Government has provided PSNI with £16.5m to help prepare for EU exit. This funding will help the PSNI manage pressures and contingencies arising from EU exit preparations which fall in the 2019/20 financial year. It will enable PSNI to recruit 206 additional officers this financial year.</p><p> </p>

I most recently met the Chief Constable on his second day in office to emphasise my support for the PSNI and my confidence in its new leadership.</p><p> </p><p>Policing is a devolved matter in Northern Ireland and the PSNI’s main budget is allocated by the Department of Justice from the Northern Ireland block grant.</p><p><br> We also provide the PSNI with £32 million in additional security funding to address the SEVERE threat from Northern Ireland-related terrorism. This ensures PSNI’s ability to tackle the terrorist threat while ensuring day-to-day policing is not compromised.</p> more like this

The Chief Constable has stated that he will need to re-prioritise resources to minimise the effect of these budget reductions. This matter is kept under constant review.</p><p>This Government has provided additional security funding of £231m to support PSNI in their efforts to tackle the threat from Northern Ireland Related Terrorism. star this property answer text <p>PSNI’s main grant budget is provided through the block grant and is a matter for the Northern Ireland Department of Justice. Recruitment is an operational matter for the Chief Constable.</p><p> </p><p>The UK Government has provided the resources PSNI asked for to tackle the terrorist threat: £231million in Additional Security Funding between 2011 and 2016, and £160 million over this spending round.</p><p> </p><p>This is a significant funding package and is part of this Government’s commitment to tackling the terrorist threat and supporting the PSNI. As the Government’s Northern Ireland manifesto at the General Election made clear, we will always give our fullest possible support to the brave men and women of the PSNI who do such excellent work protecting the community.</p> more like this
