star this property answer text <p>Proxy and postal voting is a permitted part of elections. Any allegations of electoral fraud are referred to the PSNI, and the Chief Electoral Officer has made clear that she is content that applications are processed and approved in accordance with the law. The Chief Electoral Officer has also made it clear that she has seen no evidence of systematic electoral abuse.</p><p> </p><p>The Government continues to consult with key stakeholders and keeps electoral legislation under review. We are committed to tackling possible abuse through a number of measures including piloting voter ID in Great Britain, supporting the Private Member’s Postal Voting Bill and consulting on the recommendations of the Committee of Standards in Public Life relating to intimidation of Parliamentary candidates and other public office-holders.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The closure of the freephone election helpline is an operational matter for the Chief Electoral Officer. <br></p><p>I understand that the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland have discontinued the freephone election helpline which has historically been made available during election periods. The general public continue to be able to receive advice from the Electoral Office by telephone and the contact numbers for the Area Electoral Offices and Belfast headquarters are available on the Electoral Office website.</p><p> </p><p><br> <br></p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>These are operational matters for the Chief Electoral Officer.</p><p> </p><p>The work to introduce online registration has continued and the new computer system designed to facilitate digital registration is nearing completion. I would hope to see digital registration introduced to Northern Ireland in spring 2018.</p><p> </p><p>The delays in the development and implementation of the digital registration project have been in part due to a number of unscheduled electoral events. We have ensured the Electoral Office has sufficient budget to secure delivery of the new electoral management system.</p><p> </p> more like this
