unstar this property answer text <p>The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) reviews the provision of housing advice across England and Wales each quarter with a view to ensuring sufficient capacity in each area. Tenders for legal aid contracts are run in regular cycles, as well as on an ad hoc basis should any accessibility issue be identified in the interim.</p><p>The constituency of Dwyfor Meirionydd is located within the LAA’s North West Wales Housing Procurement Area. Shelter Cymru have three contracted offices in this procurement area, from where they deliver Housing advice. unstar this property answer text <p>On 18<sup>th</sup> January 2017 Baroness Williams of Trafford stated in the House of Lords that the Government was considering how to address a lack of awareness among victims of their rights under the code. Baroness Williams further stated that the Government is considering how compliance with the code might be improved or monitored, and exploring how those responsible for the delivery of rights and entitlements might be held accountable for failings. Baroness Williams then committed to the House that the Government would set out a strategy for victims.</p><p> </p><p>I can confirm that this Government is committed to publishing a strategy for victims in early 2018. We are engaging with engaging victims, victims’ groups, and criminal justice agencies. We are working with the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners to better understand compliance with the Victims’ Code at a local level. We will be carrying out further engagement which we will announce in due course.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Department’s Ministers and officials regularly engage with victims’ organisations in relation to victims’ policy matters, to listen to and understand issues and concerns as well as to make sure that they can contribute to policy work.</p><p> </p><p>In line with management of the policy on provision of emotional and practical support for victims of crime and witnesses, the Department also has regular business as usual and ad hoc meetings with the victims’ organisations on grant funds.</p><p> </p><p>Since 1 January 2017 Ministers and officials have met with a range of victims’ organisations on a number of topics. We are investing across the prison estate in extra staff, training and security measures so that we can provide full and purposeful regimes, improve staff-prisoner relationships and reduce the impact of drugs.</p><p> </p><p>Prisons with a high absolute number of incidents might not necessarily have the highest relative number or rate of incidents, because the number of prisoners and the nature of the population will vary between establishments. Internal reviews are completed by staff who were not involved in the management of the case. They are then independently scrutinised by senior operational staff in the National Offender Management Service to ensure that they are sufficiently thorough and identify all relevant lessons for the management of future cases. Ministers are currently considering future arrangements for the production of SFO reviews.</p><p>Where an offender under probation supervision is convicted of a further offence, the offender concerned bears the responsibility for that offence. The SFO review process is not a disciplinary or a capability investigation and such investigations do not fall in scope of the Probation SFO Review Procedures. Data on staff members who have been subject to disciplinary procedures following a wider investigation that had been prompted by the SFO review investigation are not held centrally in a readily accessible format for the last four years. To obtain these data would exceed cost limits.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>As we announced in the House of Lords last month, we will set out our strategy for victims within 12 months, and will take the appropriate action to give effect to the strategy, including bringing forward any appropriate primary legislation.</p><p>We have made some positive steps to improve the experience of victims of crime, to reduce unnecessary stress and lessen the emotional turmoil of attending court. For example, this year we began rolling out pre-trial cross-examination for vulnerable victims and witnesses in the Crown Court. However more can be done to further strengthen the rights of victims.</p><p>We are considering how compliance with the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime (Victims’ Code) might be improved and monitored. We are also exploring how those responsible for delivery of rights and entitlements might be better held accountable for any failings.</p><p>On 6 February I met with the Victims’ Panel which has been re-established so that we can learn from the experiences of victims of crime. I also have regular meetings with the Victims’ Commissioner, Baroness Newlove, about her work in keeping under review the operation of the Victims’ Code. Plans to engage with and obtain views of victims and victims’ groups are being developed.</p>
