answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/09/2017 answer text <p>The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) does not hold information about how many victims of sexual abuse have been refused compensation since 1996 because they had a criminal conviction related to the coercion aspect of the grooming process.</p><p>It has only been mandatory for applicants to provide an indication of the type of incident for which they are claiming compensation since 1 January 2015. Additionally, the information recorded on the HMPPS central accounting system does not allow the identification of costs attributable to holding individual offenders.</p><p> </p><p>However, HMPPS, routinely publishes average costs per prisoner, costs per prison place and overall prison unit costs for each private and public sector prison in England and Wales. This information is produced on an annual basis and is published after the end of each financial year. The LAA regularly reviews capacity in the legal aid market and takes action to ensure continued provision where gaps are identified. Applications made to the LAA to obtain such representation are in most matters dependent upon the means of the applicant and the circumstances of their case.
