For example, following Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas last September, RFA Mounts Bay played a critical role in the UK response.</p><p>As set out in the UK Humanitarian Reform Plan, the UK Government is committed ensuring a bigger, better, faster response capability which is able to respond to a range of different natural disasters. UK Official Development Assistance (ODA) increasingly supports renewable energy projects – between 2011-12 and 2018-19 UK aid has provided 26 million people with improved access to clean energy and installed 1,600 MW of clean energy capacity, avoiding 16 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.</p><p>DFID supports a number of ongoing programmes with a clean energy focus, such as the Africa Clean Energy programme, which works in over 15 African countries to increase deployment of off-grid renewable energy, by supporting businesses and governments to improve market conditions for the private sector.</p><p>The doubling of the UK’s International Climate Finance (ICF) contribution to £11.6 billion from 2021/22 to 2025/26 will enable the UK to do even more to accelerate the development and adoption of low carbon technologies.</p><p>The ICF increase includes up to £1 billion for the Ayrton Fund, which will focus on developing and testing new technology in areas such as energy storage, new cooling technologies, next generation solar, and technologies for industrial decarbonisation.</p><p>As announced by the Prime Minister at the UK-Africa Investment Summit in January, the UK will no longer provide any new direct ODA, investment, export credit or trade promotion support for thermal coal mining or coal power plants overseas.</p> answering member constituency Rochford and Southend East answering member printed James Duddridge question first answered 12/03/2020 15:53:48 answering member 1559 label Biography information for Sir James Duddridge

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/03/2020 answer text <p>The UK, represented by the UK Centre for Ecology &amp; Hydrology (UKCEH) and the Met Office, is actively involved in helping to steer the water related activities of both organizations through its Memberships of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) Council, the WMO Executive Council and the WMO Hydrological Coordination Panel.</p><p>Within UNESCO, as former Vice-Chairs of the IHP and current Council Members, we are making efforts to influence current planning for the Ninth Phase of the Programme, which is due to commence in 2022. A key area of focus for UK input has been to encourage UNESCO to reach out to partners across the UN-system and more broadly in the planning and implementation of the next phase.</p><p>In doing so we are encouraging not only coordination through bilateral links and UN-Water, which the UK Government helped establish in 2006, but exploration of the potential benefit of establishing further joint initiatives between organizations in order to provide integrated support to Members’ efforts towards the water related Sustainable Development Goals. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/03/2020 answer text <p>Private Investment Development Group (PIDG) complies with international best practice standards and PIDG companies complete an Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessment for each project in which they invest, before approving any such investment.</p><p>Each investment must comply with PIDG’s Environment, Social, Health and Safety standards, which are based on the internationally recognised International Finance Corporation Environment and Social Performance Standards. DFID monitors compliance with these policies as part of its ongoing role as a PIDG Owner.</p><p>PIDG does not hold data on projects specifically rejected on the grounds of environmental concerns.</p><p>The Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG) prioritises investments in renewables wherever possible. PIDG does not have any active fossil fuel extraction projects, and PIDG’s strategy rules out any investments in coal.</p><p>Data on all PIDG investment commitments are available online via its Results Monitoring Database and its annual reports (<a href="https://www.pidg.org/" target="_blank">https://www.pidg.org/</a>).
