<p>At this year’s UN General Assembly, the UK announced £515 million in new support
to help get over 12 million children – half of them girls – into school. This includes
a £300 million pledge for the innovative new International Finance Facility for Education
that will help mobilise an additional $5 billion of investment for education in Africa
and Asia, with a focus on the most marginalised children.</p><p> </p><p>This funding,
in line with the Prime Minister’s pledge to make sure all girls have 12 years of quality
education, will give millions of girls around the world the chance to go to school,
supporting economic growth and improving women’s rights.</p><p> </p><p>More broadly,
the UK is committed to promoting gender equality and protecting and empowering adolescent
girls, and we also announced a new £600 million aid package to provide millions more
women and girls in the developing world access to family planning.</p>
