answer text <p><del class="ministerial">Between 4<sup>th</sup> July and 4<sup>th</sup> October 2024, the Home Office made 109 appointments by exception to the Civil Service Commission’s published Recruitment Principles.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">The legal requirement for appointment to the Civil Service (CS) is for selection to be made on merit based on fair and open competition. Under section 12 of the 2010 Constitutional Reform and Governance Act, the CS Commission has the power to Except a selection from the requirement to appoint on Merit based on a fair and open competition. This must either be justified by the needs of the CS or be necessary to enable the CS to participate in a government employment initiative. answer text <p><del class="ministerial">The Government is committed to rolling out a Young Futures programme which will bring together local services to improve the delivery of support for young people at risk of being drawn into crime .</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">The HO has already set up a YF delivery unit to make progress on the design of local prevention partnerships and will be working cross government on the design and delivery of Young Futures Hubs. More information will be provided in due course.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Defending Democracy Taskforce coordinates a whole of government response to threats of foreign interference in our democracy.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> The Taskforce was established in 2022 and continue its work to safeguard our democracy and strengthen its resilience to the threats we face. </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> The Taskforce’s latest meeting was on the 25 July, when it considered issues relating to the recent General Election and the work going on across government to ensure that anyone who wishes to participate in our democracy can do so without fear of intimidation or abuse.</ins></p><p> </p><p> </p>

answer text <p><del class="ministerial">For far too long, violence against women and girls has been treated as an inevitability rather than the national emergency that it is. Our mission is to halve violence against women and girls within a decade, using every tool at our disposal to protect victims and to get dangerous offenders off the streets.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">That must start with drastically improving the policing and criminal justice response, ensuring that every force has the specialist capability to respond swiftly and robustly to these devastating crimes, and we will be bringing forward plans shortly to drive up standards across policing.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">It is essential that the public can have confidence in the police; the government has committed to restoring confidence in policing to record levels, alongside halving violence against women and girls and halving knife crime over a decade. These are core aims of the government's mission to take back our streets.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The government is also committed to improving police standards by strengthening the police misconduct system and introducing mandatory national vetting standards.</ins></p>

answer text <p><del class="ministerial">The best department to approach for information on charging is the Ministry of Justice.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">After further conversation with MOJ colleagues, please see amended response to your written question;</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The number of people charged with a criminal offence will be data held by the Police, the number of asylum seekers within that total will be a subset. It’s not information we hold.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">All asylum claimants are subject to mandatory security checks to confirm their identity and to link it to their biometric details for the purpose of immigration, security and criminality checks. These checks are critical to the delivery of a safe and secure immigration system.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">If the asylum claimant is aged 16 years or over, their fingerprints will be checked against those fingerprints held on the police biometric database, IDENT1. An asylum decision-maker will be able to confirm the presence of a criminal offence charge. However, this information is not held in a reportable format and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost as it would require a manual trawl of case records to retrieve. </ins></p><p> </p>
