answer text <p>The Government takes reports of labour exploitation and illegal working practices very seriously, including in the car wash sector.</p><p>The Home Office collects and publishes data on arrests in England and Wales, as part of the annual “Police Powers and Procedures: Stop and search and arrests” statistical bulletin, available here: <a href="https://gbr01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gov.uk%2Fgovernment%2Fstatistics%2Fstop-and-search-and-arrests-year-ending-march-2023&amp;data=05%7C01%7CCatherine.Morgan%40homeoffice.gov.uk%7C76dd3a618d1e4d487aee08dbf0e1cff2%7Cf24d93ecb2914192a08af182245945c2%7C0%7C0%7C638368624862428382%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=NSN4JBCk7A9qXGFPaVOt%2Fe4F5BqGe682YFzOjMCBbt8%3D&amp;reserved=0" target="_blank">Stop and search and arrests, year ending March 2023 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)</a>.</p><p>Statistics on arrests for modern slavery in connection with labour sectors, such as car washes, are not systematically collected or recorded.</p><p>Statistics on modern slavery exploitation sub-types are not currently systematically collected by the National Referral Mechanism, and are only recorded under broad exploitation categories (for example, labour, criminal, sexual).</p><p> </p><p>The Home Office funds the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA), which has specially trained officers with police-style powers to prevent, detect and investigate serious labour exploitation across the entire economy in England and Wales.</p><p>Since 01 January 2018, the GLAA has recorded 27 intelligence reports linked to car washes in Sheffield.</p>
