answer text <p>Information on asylum decision times and cases awaiting decision is published as part of the Government’s Transparency agenda the latest release of which can be found at can be found at <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/asylum-transparency-data-november-2016" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/asylum-transparency-data-november-2016</a>.</p><p> </p><p>The Home Office no longer has an asylum backlog. In the year ending 31 March 2015 we completed a significant exercise in clearing all straightforward cases with a claim date preceding 1 April 2014. This required the progression of a number of cases far older than 12 months. We are now in a position where the majority of cases receive a decision within 6 months.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Tackling child sexual abuse is a top priority for this Government. The Tackling Child Sexual Exploitation report published in March 2015 set out our response to the failures we saw in Rotherham and elsewhere, and we have since implemented an ambitious programme of reform to improve our response preventing and tackling sexual abuse of children.</p><p> </p><p>We are making good progress on the programme of reform which reports on a bi-monthly basis to the Inter Ministerial Group on Child Sexual Abuse chaired by the Home Secretary. We intend to publish a full progress report in the near future.</p> more like this

answer text <p>In light of the Government’s manifesto commitment to achieve three million new appren-ticeship starts in England by the end of the Parliament, the Cabinet Office will be centrally collecting data on apprenticeships to allow the Civil Service to report on its contribution towards the national target.</p><p>Prior to 1st April 2015 the Home Department did not centrally record apprenticeships.</p><p>From 1st April 2015 to 31st March 2016 there were 30 apprentices who started in the Home Department. From 1st April 2016 to date (as of 28/10/16) 45 apprentices started in the Home Department.</p><p>All of apprentices that started post 1st April 2015 are only part way through their assignments and therefore have not secured permanent positions within the civil service.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The provision of accommodation for asylum seekers is provided under the COMPASS contracts. It is the responsibility of all of the suppliers to ensure that all accommodation used meets the required contractual standard and complies with the Decent Homes Standards. The accommodation should be safe, habitable and fit for purpose. The COMPASS providers are required to inspect properties each month and UKVI's contract compliance teams reinforce this by visiting properties regularly.</p><p>The Home Office expects the highest standards and where a contractor is found to be falling short of these standards we work with them to ensure that issues are quickly addressed.</p><p>Earlier this year, we instructed our supplier (G4S) to repaint the doors of G4S and Jomast managed properties to ensure that no one colour is predominant. I have received confirmation from the Provider that this had been completed, UKVI staff have also confirmed that no one colour is predominant as they have visited properties as part of their inspection regime.</p>

answer text <p>The Home Office and its accommodation providers encourage accommodated asylum seekers to inform us of any criminal or anti-social activity against them so that appropriate action can be taken to ensure their safety. Information concerning the reports of criminal offences is not recorded on centrally collated statistical databases and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost by examination of case records.</p> more like this
