	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/07/2020 answer text <p>We have invested £70m over two years into the 18 areas worse affected by serious violence in England and Wales to support them in developing a Violence Reduction Unit (VRU).</p><p>VRUs are required to work across agencies to identify the root causes of violence and develop a strategy to prevent and reduce violence. We expect them to build on this platform over time and we hope to see VRUs operating beyond the end of 2021. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/01/2023 answer text <p>The Asylum, Resettlement Councils Senior Engagement Group (ARCSEG) meets every 3 months, with additional meetings held outside the quarterly cycle in exceptional circumstances. The meetings are chaired by the Director of Asylum Support and Chief Executive of the Local Government Association.</p><p>Accommodation provision and shortfall, such as contingency, dispersed and resettlement cohort accommodation, have and continue to feature prominently as a core agenda item for ARCSEG meetings. This is in addition to further discussion and progress tracking through other local government engagement forums such as the weekly cross-government Strategic Oversight Group and Ministerial Task Group.</p><p>In the last ARCSEG meeting on 13 December 2022 there was a constructive dialogue between Home Office officials and Local Government Chief Executives on a range of accommodation and housing issues. ARCSEG actions are progressed between meetings through “Deep Dive” sub-groups, all of which have local government representation.</p><p>We also regularly engage with our accommodation providers to discuss any issues that arise and ensure best practice is always followed. The performance of our providers is monitored closely by dedicated staff in each contract area, who are in daily contact with them. This is supplemented by a formal governance process which includes quarterly Strategic Review Management Boards and monthly Contract Management Groups. Women and girls have the right to both be and feel safe on our streets.</p><p>In the Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy, published in July 2021, we committed to a series of non-legislative actions to help tackle this issue. As a result of those commitments:</p><p>- In September 2021 the Home Office and National Police Chiefs’ Council launched a pilot tool, StreetSafe, which enables the public to report anonymously areas where they feel unsafe, so that local authorities and the police can take practical steps in response, such as improved CCTV and street lighting, as well as deploying an increased police presence. As of 24 June, almost 18,000 people have submitted reports using the tool.</p><p>- In October 2021 the Home Office announced awards of £23.5 million to Police and Crime Commissioners and local authorities under Round 3 of the Safer Streets Fund, to make public spaces safer for everyone through projects to help women and girls feel safer on the streets. Most of the projects which were awarded funding involved activity to deter offending such as increased CCTV surveillance, as well as changing attitudes towards violence against women and girls.</p><p>- In December 2021 the College of Policing published a new advice product for police officers, advising them about the preventative strategies and criminal offences which they can use to respond to reports of various different types of public sexual harassment.</p><p>- In March 2022 we launched the ‘Enough’ communications campaign, which seeks to change public attitudes and tolerance towards crimes such as public sexual harassment and to help create an atmosphere in which women and girls can report such crimes to the police with confidence.</p><p>The Strategy also confirmed that we were looking carefully at where there may be gaps in existing law and how a specific offence for public sexual harassment could address those. The SIA reviews its training standards every five years in accordance with its obligations under the Private Security Industry Act 2001, with the most recent changes coming into force in October 2021.</p><p>The SIA works closely with the sector to develop standards and promote industry-led continuous professional development. The review is approximately three months in duration and is due to conclude in the new year, ahead of PCC elections in May.
