Since then, Po-lice and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) have received broadly flat cash direct resource funding and we are increasing investment in transformation and improved communications and technology capabilities.</p><p>We know that crime is changing, and we are sensitive to current pressures on policing. That is why I am undertaking a programme of engagement with the sector to understand the impact of changing demands, and to hear how the police are managing this. That includes what more can be done to improve productivity and efficiency, reduce bureaucracy, and make prudent use of financial reserves.</p><p>Decisions about the allocation of police resources and deployment of officers are for Chief Constables and democratically accountable PCCs. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/02/2018 answer text <p>The Home Office does not hold this data.</p><p>However, in recognition of the importance of ensuring transparency in how police officers use force, particularly against vulnerable people, the Government asked the police to lead the Use of Force Data Review. The Review recommended that police forces record and publish a range of data each time force is used, including the reason force was used, injury data, the gender, ethnicity and age of the subject involved, and the location and outcome of the incident. This includes the use of TASER® and use of force in mental health settings.</p><p>These recommendations were welcomed by the former Home Secretary and the former Minister for Policing and the Fire Service. A Written Ministerial Statement on 2 March 2017 announced the implementation of the recommendations, with police forces commencing recording in April last year. Police forces are now publishing their data locally, and a subset of the data will be provided to the Home Office as part of the Annual Data Requirement 2017/18 – and annually thereafter. However, the Government has made clear that a police station is not a suitable environment in which to detain a person who has committed no offence but who is experiencing mental health problems.</p><p>The use of police stations as places of safety in such circumstances has fallen significantly over recent years from 8667 in 2011/12 to a low of just over 1,000 occasions in 2016/17. We know that there are significant variations in how GPs now respond to this request and we have been discussing with the police, the relevant medical bodies and representatives of shooting organisations how greater consistency can be achieved in England and Wales.
