answer text <p>Since 2018, we have invested an extra £2.3 billion a year to expand mental health services in England, with the aim of enabling two million more people, including 345,000 more children and young people to access mental health support.</p><p>We are rolling out mental health support teams to schools and colleges. These now cover around 35% of pupils, and is expected to reach 50% of pupils by March 2025. answer text <p>We have made no such assessment. However, we are committed to increasing investment into mental health services by at least £2.3 billion a year by March 2024 and have set out our aim in the NHS Long Term Plan for an additional 345,000 children and young people to be able to get the mental health support they need.</p><p>We continue to work with the Department for Education to implement the proposals of the Government’s <em>Transforming children and young people’s mental health</em> green paper. A copy of the green paper is attached.</p><p>There are now almost 400 mental health support teams in place in schools and colleges across England. Mental health support teams now cover over three million children or approximately 35% of pupils in schools and colleges. We aim to increase this coverage to 50% by April 2025.</p> more like this

This funding will help hubs to hire counsellors, youth workers and other local experts.</p><p>The drop-in centres offer mental health support and advice to local young people who will not need a referral by a doctor or school. Services provided include group work, counselling, psychological therapies, specialist advice and signposting to information and other services.</p> more like this

answer text <p>An independent early evaluation commissioned by the Department of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Trailblazer programme was published in January and is available at the following link:</p><p><a href="https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/brace/projects/children-and-young-people's-mental-health-trailblazer-programme.aspx" target="_blank">https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/brace/projects/children-and-young-people's-mental-health-trailblazer-programme.aspx</a></p><p>The evaluation examines the development, implementation, and early progress of the first wave of mental health support teams in the first 25 ‘trailblazer’ areas participating in the programme, which became operational from January 2020.</p><p>A second independent evaluation, which will consider the longer-term impacts of Mental Health Support Teams has also been commissioned through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). This project commenced in June 2023 and is due to complete June 2026. The findings will be published once a final report has been submitted and approved by the NIHR.</p>

answer text <p>We are expanding and transforming children and young people’s mental health services through the NHS Long Term Plan. Funding for mental health services will increase by at least £2.3 billion a year by March 2024, as part of which an additional 345,000 children and young people will be able to access National Health Service-funded mental health support.</p><p>As part of the £500 million COVID-19 funding for the Mental Health Recovery Action Plan, we invested £79 million extra in 2021/22 to significantly expand children’s mental health services. This allowed around 22,500 more children and young people to access community health services and a faster increase in the coverage of mental health support teams in schools and colleges.</p> more like this
