answer text
The Department does not issue guidelines on accessing specialised support services for people with mental health conditions who may be experiencing financial difficulties. Where financial difficulties are identified as an issue for a person receiving treatment and care for a mental health condition, signposting already exists in some general practitioner (GP) practices and in Improving Access to Psychological Therapies services.

A person who is experiencing financial difficulties or a debt crisis may approach their GP or another health professional to provide evidence of their mental health condition to their creditors to help aid any support a creditor may be able to provide to that person. The Government is currently reviewing the process for GPs and other health professionals completing Mental Health Evidence Forms to support this process.
more like this

answer text
NHS Digital does not currently hold combined average waiting time data for all services that provide mental health support. This is because there are a wide range of services that offer mental health support and there are varying degrees of complexities about measuring waiting times, particularly where patients have a range of comorbidities.

There are a number of targets for waiting times that the Government has signed up to, these include targets for the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme, waiting times targets for eating disorders services and waiting times targets for Early Intervention in Psychosis services. answer text
In October 2017, NHS Improvement and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) launched a national mental health patient safety initiative. It will be supported by a national mental health quality improvement programme, led by NHS Improvement and informed by the CQC intelligence as part of a joint strategic objective to ensure a shared view of quality. All mental health providers will be involved in this initiative, which has an emphasis on shared learning and the embedding of sustainable quality improvement approaches as integral to the way mental health services are delivered across the sector.

Under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 all providers of regulated activities, including National Health Service and independent mental health providers, have to register with the CQC and follow a set of fundamental standards of safety and quality below which care should never fall. If the CQC is not satisfied with the quality of services provided it can take action against the provider, from issuing warning notices to, ultimately, cancelling a provider’s registration.

answer text
The Department has no such plans.

The Department does not generally ringfence budgets within the National Health Service. Clinicians in clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), who know their patients, have the autonomy to make decisions about the health services that best meet the health needs of their local population. They do this based on patient needs and clinical evidence.

The NHS Operational Planning and Contracting Guidance applies to CCGs and sets out specific requirements, including commissioning mental health services that meet the needs of local populations. This guidance also requires CCGs and NHS England specialised commissioning hubs to increase their spend on mental health services by a greater amount than the growth in their overall programme allocation.
more like this
