Nationality is self-reported within the NHS human resources and payroll system, the electronic staff record.</p><p>As of 31 March 2017, latest data available, there are now 61,934 (headcount) European Union nationals (excluding the United Kingdom), or 5.2% employed in the NHS trusts and clinical commissioning groups.
