Friend the Prime Minister announced, in her evidence to the Liaison Committee on 27 March, her intention to come forward with a long-term plan for the National Health Service, supported by a multi-year financial settlement to deliver that plan. The Government will bring forward a long-term plan this year, in advance of the Spending Review. The Government will work with NHS leaders, clinicians and experts to develop this long-term plan, to ensure that the NHS can cope with the serious demand and cost pressures it faces in the future.</p><p> </p><p>No decision has yet been taken on the share of funds to be allocated to general practice under the multi-year financial settlement.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department keeps the issue of car parking charges under review following its 2015 guidance on National Health Service patient, visitor and staff car parking which is available at the following link:</p><p> </p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nhs-patient-visitor-and-staff-car-parking-principles/nhs-patient-visitor-and-staff-car-parking-principles" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/nhs-patient-visitor-and-staff-car-parking-principles/nhs-patient-visitor-and-staff-car-parking-principles</a></p><p> </p><p>Income generated from parking charges is used to pay the costs of providing the parking e.g. maintenance, security and lighting, and avoid funds being taken from budgets for healthcare services. If any excess is generated, it is used to fund clinical services.</p><p> </p><p>NHS trusts make decisions locally about the provision of car parking to patients, visitors and staff, and are provided guidance by the Department in published car parking principles. The principles provide a sufficient mandate for trusts to take a responsible approach to charging, including recommendations to charge on exit and providing reduced costs.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The Government has announced a record increase of an additional 1,500 medical school places for domestic students in England – 630 started this September, with a further 690 starting in 2019/20 and the final 180 in 2020/21. This expansion will also deliver five brand new medical schools in Sunderland, Lancashire, Chelmsford, Lincoln and Canterbury.</p><p> </p><p>On the back of the additional £20 billion additional National Health Service funding, NHS leaders are currently producing a long-term plan that will include proposals for the NHS workforce, training and leadership, which the Government will consider and respond to in due course.</p> more like this

In Chapter 2 of the Childhood Obesity Plan, we outlined our commitment to provide health and care professionals with the latest training and tools to better support children, young people and families to reduce obesity.</p><p> </p><p>It is the responsibility of Higher Education Institutes to set the curricula for the pre-registration training of healthcare professionals to standards set by the individual regulators of each profession.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In July 2016 the Government published a revised economic impact assessment alongside the response to its consultation: Reforming healthcare education funding: creating a sustainable future workforce.</p><p> </p><p>A revised version of the original Equality Analysis, published in February 2018 to accompany the reforms to pre-registration postgraduate healthcare funding, can be found with the aforementioned documents at the following link:</p><p> </p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/changing-how-healthcare-education-is-funded" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/changing-how-healthcare-education-is-funded</a></p><p> </p><p>Following implementation of the policy, the Department will look for suitable opportunities, including through existing stakeholder forums, to monitor developments.</p><p> </p><p>In order to meet the growing need to increase the future supply of registered nurses, additional clinical placement funding was announced by the Department in August and October 2017. This will enable around 5,000 more nursing students to enter training each year from September 2018; an historic 25% increase.</p>
