	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/04/2019 answer text <p>The data on the number of patients with severe haemophilia A and haemophilia B by the number of bleeds is attached.</p><p> </p><p>The National Haemophilia Database (NHD) have very limited bleed-level data for patients with mild or moderate haemophilia since these patients do not bleed frequently and do not generally require home therapy. The non-severe patients using Haemtrack are skewed towards the severe end of moderate and anyone with zero bleeds is very unlikely to be reporting. For this reason, the NHD have excluded non-severe patients from this data, as it makes the data unlikely to be robust.</p><p> </p><p>It should be noted that the following limitations apply to this data:</p><ol><li>The data are derived from patient-reported Haemtrack home therapy diary data.</li><li>The data is limited to patients who require home-therapy.</li><li>These results are prone to reporting bias since uncompliant patients and patients treated on-demand, treated only when they bleed, are under-represented in this sample. The data may therefore paint a slightly optimistic picture.</li><li>About 85-90% of clinically severely affected (less than 2% VIII/IX) patients are managed with regular prophylaxis to prevent bleeding. Prior to prophylaxis, patients treated on-demand bled between twice a week and once a fortnight and, as the figures show, the mean annualised bleed rate has been dramatically reduced to about four per year. This data includes information on leavers and joiners. Leavers are defined as dentists who performed NHS activity in one year but then recorded no activity in the following year and Joiners are defined dentists who recorded NHS activity in the later year but who did not record NHS activity in the previous year. The information requested on NHS-registered dental practitioners ceasing to provide NHS services for the last 10 years is attached. Most dentists (associates) work on NHS contracts held by other dentists with NHS England.</p><p>No information is held on the reasons for an individual dentist leaving an NHS contract. Where the dentist is a contract holder the funding returns to NHS England and it is able to re-let the contract. Where the dentist is working on a contract as an associate the contract holder will seek to recruit a replacement dentist. Data is not included prior to 2015. GP locums are excluded as improvements have been made to GP locum recording methodology and figures are not comparable prior to December 2017.</p><p> </p><p>The recently published NHS Long Term Plan made a clear commitment to the future of general practice, with primary and community care set to receive at least £4.5 billion more in real terms a year by 2023/24, meaning spending on these services will grow faster than the rising NHS budget. Since the launch of the Long Term Plan, NHS England and the British Medical Association’s General Practitioners Committee have agreed a five-year GP (General Medical Services) contract framework from 2019/20. As such, the answer refers to England only.</p><p> </p><p>There is no recommendation for how many patients a general practitioner (GP) should have as the demand each patient places on their GP is different and can be affected by various factors, including rurality and patient demographics. When considering the ratio of GPs to patients it is important to consider GPs as part of the wider multidisciplinary team. Getting the skills mix right in general practice is critical in addressing workload pressures as well as in delivering appropriate patient care. NHS England has committed to providing funding towards up to 20,000 additional staff by 2023/24.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has committed to growing the workforce by 5,000 additional full time equivalent doctors in English general practice as soon as possible. NHS England and Health Education England are working together with the profession to increase the GP workforce. This includes measures to boost recruitment, address the reasons why GPs are leaving the profession and encourage GPs to return to practice.</p><p> </p><p>The national data for time between booking an appointment with a general practice and having the appointment in days is attached. A 12-month average from June 2018 - May 2019 has also been presented. NHS Digital’s ‘Appointments in General Practice’ data is published monthly with a two-month time lag.</p><p> </p><p>The appointments data does not differentiate between emergency and routine appointments in general practice and the ‘time from booking to appointment’ does not take into consideration that many patients will be appropriately booking ahead as part of the continuity of care they receive for long-term conditions.</p><p> </p><p>The data on GP appointments are from a new data collection and are still experimental therefore the data and collection method are still being refined and improved. Whilst these early datasets published by NHS Digital do not yet represent a comprehensive picture, they are an important key step in understanding pressures on primary care. NHS England, NHS Digital and the Government are working closely with GPs to understand how the data on GP appointments can be refined to improve the overall picture of primary care activity.</p><p> </p><p>The average GP consultation time with a patient is determined by each practice, depending on the needs and demands of their patient list.
