Friend, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, holds regular discussions with Cabinet colleagues on the work to improve accident and emergency (A&amp;E) waiting times, including at health stocktakes.</p><p>The Government’s aim is to make it easier for people to access a range of urgent care services and avoid needing to make unnecessary visits to A&amp;E departments. Subject to marketing authorisation approval, companies have freedom of pricing for new active substances under the voluntary scheme for branded medicines pricing and access agreed between the Government and industry.</p><p>The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) assesses all new medicines and makes recommendations on whether they represent a clinically and cost-effective use of National Health Service resources and should be routinely funded. NICE has begun its appraisal of aducanumab for treating mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease and currently expects to publish final guidance in May 2022, subject to licensing. This funding has been allocated to nine charities across England with successful bids which represented the best value for money and positive patient impact. The allocation will fund upgrades to seven operational airbases, including training facilities and fundraising headquarters. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/09/2023 answer text <p>To support healthcare professionals in ensuring that children with suspected allergies receive a diagnosis, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has published a range of evidence-based best practice guidance for clinicians and commissioners. These include guidance on the diagnosis and treatment of drug and food allergy in under-19s [CG116]; the diagnosis and management of atopic eczema in the under-12s [CG57]; and diagnosing, monitoring, and managing asthma in adults, young people and children [NG80].</p><p>NICE guidelines represent best practice, and health professionals, including general practitioners, are expected to take them fully into account. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/03/2023 answer text <p>The Department’s focus is on helping to ensure continuity of supply of medicines, including antibiotics, for United Kingdom patients. We use a range of tools and follow well-established processes to manage and mitigate medicine supply issues, working closely with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the pharmaceutical industry, NHS England, Devolved Governments and others operating in the supply chain, to help prevent shortages and to ensure that the risks to patients are minimised when they do arise.</p><p>The recent supply issues affecting antibiotics used to treat Strep A appear to be improving, as decisive action has been taken to boost supply and demand has reduced. We are continuing to work with manufacturers and wholesalers to ensure that they expedite deliveries, bring forward stock they have to make sure it gets to where it is needed, and boost supply to meet demand. We have issued eight Serious Shortage Protocols to allow pharmacists to supply an alternative form of penicillin V, or alternative antibiotic, to make things easier for them, patients, and general practitioners.</p><p>We understand from our engagement with industry and other stakeholders that other countries have also experienced supply issues with antibiotics over recent months. The NHS AI Lab has allocated £113 million to support the development and evaluation of 86 AI technologies, which are now live in hundreds of Primary Care Networks across the United Kingdom.</p><p>We will rebuild an NHS that is fit for the future, and innovation in general practice is key to this.
