	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/07/2019 answer text <p>Currently there are no restrictions that limit the administration of dermal fillers on young people under the age of 18 years old.</p><p>The Department is exploring options to introduce age restrictions on access to cosmetic procedures, bringing them in line with legislation on tattoos, teeth whitening and the use of sunbeds. From May 2020 all dermal fillers, irrespective of their composition and intended use, will be regulated as medical devices under Annex XVI of the Medical Device Regulations (EU 2017/745). The new Regulations will significantly improve the quality and safety of dermal fillers.</p><p>The Government is committed to improving the safety of cosmetic procedures through better training for practitioners, and clear information so that people can make informed decisions about their care. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/08/2019 answer text <p>Decisions on whether individual medicines are suitable for assessment by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and whether they meet the criteria for the highly specialised technologies programme, are taken through an established topic selection process.</p><p>The process is overseen by NICE and includes consideration against published criteria by a topic selection panel and engagement with stakeholders. Although NHS England, NHS Improvement and the Department provide input and are part of this panel, the decision-making process is led by NICE. Kuvan for the treatment of phenylketonuria was last considered by the topic selection panel on 15 February 2019.</p><p>In the absence of guidance from NICE, it is for National Health Service organisations and healthcare professionals to make decisions on whether to fund Kuvan on the basis of an assessment of the available evidence. The chances of sudden heart attacks in apparently physically fit young people are extremely small. The overwhelming majority of heart attacks happen in elderly people.</p><p>In June 2019 the United Kingdom National Screening Committee (UK NSC) published an evidence summary consultation document in relation to its review of the evidence for screening for the risk of sudden cardiac death in young people (12-39). The review process began in February 2019 and is estimated to be completed by December 2019.</p><p> </p><p>The UK NSC welcomes comments and feedback on the evidence review during the consultation period that lasts from 7 June to 7 September 2019.</p><p> </p><p>The UK NSC is an independent committee that advises Ministers and the National Health Service in all four UK countries on all aspects of screening and supports implementation of screening programmes. That process has now concluded and the topic selection decision making group has determined that Kuvan should continue to be assessed through the technology appraisal process. The majority of these products are intended to be used in reconstructive surgery, and thus they are considered to be medical devices, although some manufacturers also indicate their products for aesthetic use as well.</p><p>Cosmetic dermal fillers placed on the market without any medical purpose being attributed to them by the manufacturer fall outside the scope of the Medical Devices Regulations, although in practice the majority of the products on the UK market are CE marked as medical devices.</p><p>From May 2020 all dermal fillers, irrespective of their composition and intended use, will be regulated as medical devices under Annex XVI of the Medical Device Regulations (EU 2017/745). The Regulations will significantly strengthen the quality assurance and safety of dermal fillers and ensure a consistent legal status of these products on the UK market. This will lead to a stronger market surveillance of these products.</p><p>Medical devices cannot be designated as ‘prescription only’, as this term only applies to medicinal products.
