Since the removal of President Bashir, and the establishment of a Transitional Military Council, the UK has ensured that the situation in Sudan has been discussed at the highest levels, including at the UN Security Council and EU. We continue to engage with international counterparts across our diplomatic network to coordinate an international response that supports the people of Sudan. The Foreign Secretary spoke with Kenyan Cabinet secretary for Foreign Affairs on 3 May and Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs on 25 April on the importance of international partners’ engagement to support a swift transition to civilian rule. In addition, we have ongoing discussions with our Troika partners (US and Norway), collectively calling for a transition that is inclusive and respectful of human rights and the rule of law. Our Ambassador in Khartoum has frequently raised these concerns directly with the Government of Sudan. Further, I raised our concerns with the Foreign Minister of Sudan on 13 March where I emphasised the importance of human rights. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/03/2019 answer text <p>​I spoke to Sudanese Foreign Minister Dirdiri on 23 January and 13 March to express the strength of our ongoing concern at the use of violence, the decision to declare a state of emergency and to urge the government to respect the rights of the Sudanese people. In addition, I raised our concern regarding the response to protests in Sudan, including the use of lethal force, with the Sudanese Foreign Minister and emphasised the importance of respect for the rule of law and for human rights. Most recently the Sudanese ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Office on 7 March to register the depth of our ongoing concern at recent declarations which further erode human rights. We remain deeply concern at the human rights implication of the Government of Sudan's response to protests. There is no specific or separate religious dimension to them or to the Government of Sudan's response. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/09/2018 answer text <p>Human rights remain a key priority for our engagement with the Government of Sudan, and we will continue to pursue our human rights objectives through the UK-Sudan Strategic Dialogue. During our recent visits to Sudan, the Minister for Africa, Harriett Baldwin MP, and I discussed the need for the Government of Sudan to make concerted efforts to improve the human rights situation.</p><p>We have received a number of reports of restrictions on freedom of expression and the media, including the detention of opposition figures, the arrest of journalists, and the suppression of publications. We regularly raise these at a senior level with the Government of Sudan. Freedom of expression is a basic human right and we continue to make clear to the Government of Sudan that the Sudanese people must be allowed to exercise their rights freely.</p><p>While there is generally freedom of worship in Sudan, our Embassy in Khartoum has had reports of a number of restrictions on freedom of religion or belief, including limitations to Christian school opening days, the demolition of churches, and the lashing of women. I held a roundtable with religious leaders during my recent visit, and raised these issues with the Government.
