The Foreign Secretary has spoken to both Secretary of State Pompeo and National Security Adviser O'Brien on this issue. The Prime Minister spoke to President Erdogan on the 12 October and called on Turkey to end its military operation. We have not raised this specific case with our Chinese counterparts, however, we do regularly bring up human rights issues when having discussions with our Chinese interlocutors.</p><p>We regularly make clear our concerns about the increasing restrictions on civil and political rights and freedom of expression in China. In late 2018 we contributed to the Universal Periodic Review on China, including questions on the treatment of prisoners. We call on China to release those individuals detained for seeking to protect the rights of others. We welcome the convening of the National Dialogue in Cameroon from 30 September to 4 October and the release of 333 prisoners arrested in connection with the crisis. We hope these developments will build confidence among all parties to engage in efforts to bring peace to the North-West and South-West regions. Inclusive discussions about the root causes of people's grievances and follow up on recommendations made at the National Dialogue are urgently needed to maintain momentum. The UK continues to urge the Government of Cameroon to ensure that due process is followed for all those who remain in detention. During a briefing on conflict prevention at the UN Security Council on 7 October, the UK welcomed the National Dialogue that took place in Cameroon from 30 September – 4 October as an initial step to bring parties together to work towards peace. Inclusive discussion about the root causes of grievances in Cameroon is urgently needed, and all parties must take action to address these grievances. We continue to urge the authorities to ensure that all detainees are treated in accordance with relevant international human rights standards. We have raised specific concerns about the recent arrests at a senior level in London and Cairo, most recently on 17 October.
