Reporters Without Borders (RSF) reported that 80 journalists and media workers were killed in 2018. An additional 300 are currently in detention and 60 are being held hostage. We are very concerned about the high number of countries using restrictive laws to stifle freedom of expression and prevent the functioning of an independent media.</p><p> </p><p>The UK believes that access to fair and accurate information is the lifeblood of democracy. As such we are committed to the promotion of media freedom and the protection of journalists, which is why we have launched a global Media Freedom Campaign for 2019. Our aim is to shine a spotlight on media freedom, and in so doing to raise the cost to those abusing it. The BIOT Marine Protected Area (MPA) is highly valued by scientists from many countries who consider it a global reference site for marine conservation in an ocean which is heavily overfished. Ministers are committed to further consultation with Mauritius about the establishment of the MPA in order to have due regard to its rights and interests, as directed by the Arbitral Tribunal of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. This would include the Acquisition of Land for Public Purposes Ordinance 1983, which confirms and declares that all land in the Territory is Crown Land. Before any disposition of land could lawfully be made, this Ordinance would require amendment or repeal. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/03/2019 answer text <p>​I spoke to Sudanese Foreign Minister Dirdiri on 23 January and 13 March to express the strength of our ongoing concern at the use of violence, the decision to declare a state of emergency and to urge the government to respect the rights of the Sudanese people. In addition, I raised our concern regarding the response to protests in Sudan, including the use of lethal force, with the Sudanese Foreign Minister and emphasised the importance of respect for the rule of law and for human rights. Most recently the Sudanese ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Office on 7 March to register the depth of our ongoing concern at recent declarations which further erode human rights. We remain deeply concern at the human rights implication of the Government of Sudan's response to protests.
