I am of course concerned at the reports of violence and looting that occurred at some protests last week. But the vast majority of protesters, thousands of ordinary Tunisians, demonstrated peacefully, including on the anniversary of the country’s 2011 revolution, on 14 January. Addressing the issues underlying the Tunisian people’s concerns - unemployment, economic opportunity and regional disparities - through investment and economic reform, is the best way to ensure stability. It is a fundamental freedom which underpins many other human rights.
