I met the Turkish Cypriot chief negotiator Özdil Nami on 26 October and the Greek Cypriot chief negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis on 27 November. The Foreign Secretary also discussed Cyprus with Turkish Prime Minister Yildirim during his visit to the UK on 27 November. Although the Conference on Cyprus ultimately ended on 7 July without agreement, it made some significant progress towards addressing some of the outstanding issues. We are urging all parties to reflect on how they might build on that progress; keep channels of communication open; and refrain from words or actions that limit the prospects for resuming talks in the future.
more like this

We have called for the protection of civilians. While recognising Turkey's legitimate interest in the security of its borders, it remains in our shared interest to focus on achieving a political settlement that ends the war in Syria, provides stability for all Syrians and the wider region, and secures the enduring defeat of Daesh. We have urged the Turkish government to use the current pause in operations to allow for delivery of humanitarian aid, in line with UNSCR 2401 and in accordance with applicable international law.
more like this

We are committed to supporting Nigeria and its neighbours in the fight against this barbaric group and call for the release of all remaining hostages.

Tackling Boko Haram requires a comprehensive approach that addresses the political, economic and development problems in north east Nigeria, in addition to a security response. We are providing a substantial package of military, intelligence, development and humanitarian support to Nigeria. This includes a comprehensive range of training for the Nigerian armed forces and £5 million to support the Multinational Joint Task Force, the regional force against Boko Haram.
more like this

At the same time we are working closely with regional and international partners, and the UN, to get a more inclusive political process back on track.

The UK is the second largest bilateral humanitarian donor in South Sudan, spending £500 million between 2013 and December 2016. We have also deployed nearly 400 medical and engineering troops to the UN Mission in South Sudan to support their work protecting civilians, ensuring humanitarian access, and monitoring of human rights abuses.

Through our Conflict Security and Stability Fund (CSSF), we also support a wide range of peace building efforts at a national and sub national level. The CSSF (at approximately £3.6 million this year in South Sudan) supports the monitoring and implementation of the current peace agreement, conflict and early warning and response, and work to support victims of sexual and gender based violence.
