To that end the United Nations Human Rights Council has set up a Commission of Inquiry to investigate purported violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the Gaza Strip since the conflict began on 13 June. The UK supports this inquiry, which must be balanced and independent.
more like this

The Ambassador also raised our specific concerns about the alleged incident in Tabit with the Head of the Government’s Violence Against Women Unit on 11 November. We call on the Government of Sudan to allow the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) unhindered access so that the UN can conduct a full investigation into these alleged appalling crimes.

More broadly, as part of our ongoing dialogue on Darfur, we raise our concerns around the role and operation of the Sudanese armed forces in Darfur. Demolitions cause unnecessary suffering to ordinary Palestinians and in all but the most limited circumstances are contrary to international humanitarian law. The UK raises concerns about demolitions and displacement with the Government of Israel on a regular basis and at the highest levels.

The Government continues to urge the Government of Israel to develop improved mechanisms for zoning, planning and permitting in Area C for the benefit of the Palestinian population, including by facilitating local Palestinian participation in such processes. This year we have allocated £900,000 for technical assistance to support Palestinian villages currently threatened with demolition action to meet the requirements of the Israeli planning system.

more like this
