	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/11/2018 answer text <p>We believe the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) remains the best way of preventing a nuclear-armed Iran and we are determined to see it maintained for as long as Iran complies with it. The deal is a critical agreement that makes the world a safer place and it is working; Iran remains constrained by the strict nuclear limits in the deal and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) retains unprecedented access to monitor and verify Iran's activities. IAEA reports continue to confirm that Iran is adhering to the nuclear limits in the JCPoA.</p><p>As set out in my Written Ministerial Statement to Parliament on Monday 5 November, we have been clear with the US about our determination to preserve the JCPoA, and the fact that this is driven by our national security interests. The UK is working with France and Germany on a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to enable continued sanctions relief to reach Iran, and to allow for European exporters and importers to trade in compliance with EU and UN sanctions.</p><p>In parallel to our work with partners to maintain the JCPoA, we continue to take steps with our partners against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps destabilising behaviour across the region and to hold Iran to account on human rights, including its treatment of British-Iranians detained in Iran.</p> answering member constituency North East Bedfordshire answering member printed Alistair Burt question first answered 12/11/2018 16:00:39 answering member 1201 label Biography information for Alistair Burt

We appreciate the recent efforts of UN Special Representative Ghassan Salamé to establish a ceasefire in Tripoli, and are supportive of the creation of the Security Arrangements Committee, which aims to develop more sustainable security arrangements in the capital.</p><p>On 12-13 November I represented the United Kingdom at the Palermo conference on Libya hosted by the Italian Prime Minister. The conference demonstrated broad support for Ghassan Salamé’s recalibrated action plan to achieve progress on the political, security and economic tracks in Libya. In particular, Ghassan Salamé intends to convene a broad-based Libyan National Conference in Libya in early 2019, in order to work out a way forward with all Libya's stakeholders and pave the way to elections. The UK is clear that there can be no military solution to the conflict in Libya. The only way of achieving security and stability is through an inclusive political settlement. Recent violence in Tripoli has highlighted the need for more sustainable security arrangements not just in the capital but across the whole of the country. We strongly condemn any threats or use of force which endanger civilians, threaten stability or undermine the UN-led political process.</p><p>The political situation in Libya remains complex. We are clear that the only way of achieving stability in Libya is through an inclusive political settlement. The UK strongly supports UN Special Representative Ghassan Salamé and welcomes his plan for a National Conference to take place in early 2019. This is intended to bring together a wide range of Libyan stakeholders in order to seek broader consensus on key questions relating to Libya's political transition. In addition to our support of the UN-led political process, we continue to play an active role in wider efforts to stabilise Libya. The ceasefire in Idlib, agreed by Turkey and Russia on 17 September, is holding but fragile with some increase in violence in recent weeks. The Global Coalition against Daesh, of which the UK is a leading member, continues to support efforts to defeat Daesh in the north-east of the country. Normalising relations between Serbia and Kosovo is crucial for the security, stability and prosperity of both countries and the wider region. We support the EU-facilitated Dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo with a view to a comprehensive and sustainable solution that enjoys popular support in both countries. However, we are acutely aware of the fragility of these agreements at this stage. Mr Griffiths has stressed the need for a robust and competent monitoring regime to ensure that the agreed ceasefire is indeed viable. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/01/2019 answer text <p>On 26 October 2018 the Prime Minister reaffirmed to Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mehdi the UK's commitment to helping build a stable and successful Iraq. On 14 November 2018, I reinforced this message to Iraqi Foreign Minister Al Hakim, and requested that the Government of Iraq proactively contribute to reconstruction and stabilisation efforts. These efforts must be Iraqi-owned and Iraqi-led, with sustained international support.</p><p>Since 2015, the UK has committed over £30m to help stabilise areas liberated from Daesh, including rehabilitating critical infrastructure, delivering basic services like water and electricity, rebuilding livelihoods and supporting community reconciliation. This includes £14.45 million to the UN's Funding Facility for Stabilisation, to help the Iraqi government stabilise areas of return and re-establish security, basic services and inclusive local governance.</p><p>Stabilisation is not just about restoring physical infrastructure, but also about rebuilding trust. Community reconciliation is vital if Iraq is to enjoy a stable and prosperous future.
