star this property answer text
The United Kingdom is providing substantial assistance to strengthen Ukraine’s democracy and institutions as part of its reform programme. In July 2017, we hosted the inaugural Ukraine Reform Conference and have since participated in annual conferences including Toronto (2019). We are providing over £32 million of programme support, including at least £9.2m for reforms via the Good Governance Fund. The UK improved capacity of Central Election Commission training over 2,600 key electoral officials. In short we helped ensure that recent presidential and parliamentary elections were widely hailed as Ukraine’s freest and fairest to date. I look forward to my visit to Ukraine next week.
more like this

Actions of the Maduro regime have led to social and economic collapse and millions of misplaced people including many refugees, to neighbouring countries threatening regional stability and security. It is a man-made humanitarian crisis exacerbated by years of economic mismanagement, hyperinflation, shortages of food and medicine, and very serious human rights violations.

As a member of the Human Rights Council, Venezuela has a duty to uphold the highest standards of human rights and cooperate with the Council and its mechanisms. The United Kingdom will continue to support the work done by the Human Rights Council in Venezuela, and is committed to supporting a broad human rights agenda in the country.
more like this

Examples include a small Digital Transformation Unit, which works with our consular technology teams on the delivery of modern, accessible online consular services, fulfilling the government's 'digital by default' commitment. The Department also has an Archives Management Team within the Knowledge and Technology Directorate who are responsible for the digitisation of public records in line with The National Archives' (TNA) requirements; and an Open Source Unit which leads on using open source data in policy making. To aid internal behavioural change, we established a Work Smarter campaign in January 2018, aimed at helping staff get the most out of digital technology, and we are working to set up the Digital Data and Technology Profession. A member of the FCO Board acts as the Champion for improving our release and use of data in all aspects of our work.
