The death penalty undermines human dignity and there is no evidence that it works as a deterrent. We continue to remind the Saudi authorities of our views on the death penalty at every suitable opportunity.</p><p>We continue to strongly believe that we are most effective when we discuss human rights privately in some countries. This is the approach we are following in light of claims that Saudi Arabia intends to execute over 50 people convicted of terrorism offences, which the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. We strongly condemn all acts of violence and all incitement to commit acts of violence. Since the start of the current violence we have spoken regularly to both the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority, urging them to use their influence to de-escalate the tensions. We welcome President Buhari’s commitment to overhaul the Nigerian armed force’s rules of engagement, to investigate credible allegations of human rights violations and to take appropriate action. We understand that there are a number of investigations currently underway. It is important that these investigations are comprehensive and credible, and we are monitoring these closely.</p><p> </p><p>We regularly stress to the Nigerian authorities the importance of protecting civilians in conflict and detention, and that, whilst we support their fight against terrorism, this fight should be in full compliance with human rights standards and international law. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/11/2015 answer text <p>The second meeting of the International Syria Support Group in Vienna on 14 November agreed an outline timetable for Syrian peace negotiations, leading to transitional governance, a new constitution and elections within eighteen months. The International Syria Support Group will now meet on a regular basis, in parallel with Syrian-led discussions facilitated by UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan De Mistura, to take forward this process.</p><p>Ministers and senior officials have made regular representations to the UN Special Envoy and other UN officials to impress upon them the importance of the inclusion of Syrian women’s groups in the peace process. We continue to encourage the moderate Syrian opposition to be gender-inclusive and were pleased that a senior female activist accompanied the Syrian National Coalition President, Khaled Khoja, on his official visit to the UK earlier this month. At the Warsaw Summit in 2016, NATO Allies agreed that Multi-National Divisional Headquarters North East, based in Elblag in Poland, would co-ordinate the activities of the Enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroups that NATO is deploying to the Baltic States and Poland. Following the declaration of famine, the Secretary of State for International Development, my Rt Hon. Friend, the Member for Witham (Ms Patel) announced a £100 million package of emergency assistance that will help to provide vital life-saving nutritional, health and livelihoods support for the people of South Sudan. Together with our international partners, the UK continues to pursue every opportunity to call on all parties in the conflict in South Sudan urgently to cease all hostilities, ensure humanitarian assistance reaches those who need it most and engage in a genuine, inclusive dialogue. Multilaterally, we are lobbying for support of a UN arms embargo, and continue to support the imposition of sanctions against those who would continue to block the path to peace.
