NGO activities are co-ordinated by the official Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Italy, and all NGOs should operate in accordance with international law. It is the organised criminal networks who are exploiting vulnerable migrants and profiting from these dangerous journeys across the sea. star this property answer text <p>Between 2010 and 2013, all licensed vessels had to be flagged to an International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) registered state. The vessels were checked against the ICCAT Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing activities (IUU) blacklist. Vessel safety, scientific and location data collection and compliance with domestic fisheries legislation were the further criteria used for granting fishing licences. star this property answer text <p>At its Summit in Warsaw in 2016 NATO reaffirmed its commitment to its three core tasks - collective defence, crisis management, and cooperative security – as set out in the 2010 Strategic Concept. NATO's Open Door Policy, a founding principle of the Washington Treaty, remains in place and we hope to see Montenegro join the Alliance shortly. The North Atlantic Treaty does not make provision for non-European states to join the Alliance.</p><p>At its Defence Ministerial Meeting in February 2017, NATO restated the need to continue to adapt to address 21<sup>st</sup> Century threats. It is already involved in international efforts to counter terrorism. There are, however, no plans to create a counter terrorism command.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Zimbabwe is not a party to the Rome Statute so the International Criminal Court (ICC) has no jurisdiction over events which have taken place in that country.</p><p>For the ICC's Prosecutor to be able to initiate an investigation in these circumstances either the Government of Zimbabwe would have to voluntarily accept the ICC’s jurisdiction, or a referral from the UN Security Council would be required.</p><p>Under the Rome Statute the Security Council can only refer a situation to the ICC; it cannot refer the case of any specific individual.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text The British Government has taken a close interest in the regulatory and legal action in the US against BP following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010 and has discussed this issue with the US authorities on several occasions. It remains concerned that BP, like all British companies, should receive fair and equitable treatment at the same time as dealing fairly with the consequences of the spill. The Government’s support for BP’s activities in the US has included submitting an amicus brief before the Southern Texas District Court on 2 December 2013 in support of BP in its case regarding its disbarment from US government contracts by the US Environmental Protection Agency – a bar which has since been lifted. more like this
