answer text <p>We want our future relationship with the EU to be a deep and special partnership. We are confident that this is very much in the interests of both sides, so we approach these negotiations anticipating success. The Government does not want or expect a no deal outcome and the agreement on an implementation period makes such an outcome less likely.</p><p> </p><p>However, a responsible Government should prepare for all potential outcomes. We have been engaging with border locations and the border industry to understand the operational impacts of any potential changes, especially at key locations like Dover, the Channel Tunnel and Holyhead, which handle large volumes of EU traffic.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>We have been clear that following our exit from the EU, we will continue to welcome those with the skills, drive and expertise to make a positive contribution. We are also committed to avoiding labour shortages in key sectors.</p><p>The Government has commissioned the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to gather evidence on patterns of EU migration and the role of migration in the wider economy, ahead of our exit from the EU. The MAC will build on the significant analysis already underway in Government, but we want the MAC’s credible, independent advice to inform our decisions on our future immigration arrangements.</p><p>The MAC is due to report in September 2018 and the Government will take account of their findings when making final decisions about our future immigration system.</p> more like this

However, a responsible government should prepare for all potential outcomes, including the unlikely scenario in which no mutually satisfactory agreement can be reached.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is undertaking a wide range of analysis and preparatory work, across a range of scenarios, looking at the implications of UK withdrawal from the EU. answer text <p>We have made rapid progress in reaching agreement on the financial settlement text of the Withdrawal Agreement. As part of this agreement, the UK will continue to participate in the current budget plan up to 2020, and pay its fair share of liabilities, principally EU pensions, accrued by the end of that period. In return, the UK will receive a share of funds paid into the EU budget, and benefit from its share of relevant EU assets.<br><br>For specific areas of the financial settlement, existing enforcement mechanisms will apply, namely to our participation in programmes funded by the 2014-20 EU budget plan and to our contributions to the 2019-2020 budgets which are subject to the applicable EU rules.<br><br>Any disputes concerning the Withdrawal Agreement will be dealt with through the dispute resolution provisions agreed as part of that Withdrawal Agreement. answer text <p>As the UK slides on the Framework for the UK-EU Partnership on Transport make clear, we will pursue bilateral agreements with the relevant Member States to facilitate the continued smooth functioning of cross-border rail services operating through the Channel Tunnel and on the island of Ireland.</p><p>The cross-border services that link us with the EU have greatly benefited citizens and businesses in both the UK and the EU. We want to see these services continue without disruption, and it is in the interests of all parties to ensure this through these bilateral agreements.</p><p>The government is considering the full range of rail issues as we further discuss the shape of our future economic partnership with the EU. answer text <p>The Government is seeking a customs arrangement which fulfills three key objectives:</p><ul><li><p>to keep trade with the EU as frictionless as possible;</p></li><li><p>to avoid a ‘hard border’ with Northern Ireland; and</p></li><li><p>to establish an independent UK trade policy.</p></li></ul><p> </p><p>In the Future Partnership Paper, the Government set out two approaches for our future customs arrangements with the EU - a Highly Streamlined Customs Arrangement, and a New Customs Partnership. Both of these would fulfil our objectives, but we recognise there are unresolved issues with both, which is why there are two ministerial groups looking at each model.</p><p> </p><p>The final customs arrangements that we have with the EU will be subject to the outcome of negotiations.</p> more like this
