<p>This year marks the centenary of British women securing the right to vote. We should
not forget what it took to achieve that. The government has set aside £5m to celebrate
this important milestone in our democracy. Events are being planned across government
to honour the extraordinary sacrifices made by the many suffragettes and the landmark
changes they brought about.</p><p><strong><br></strong>The Department for Exiting
the European Union’s staff networks are planning a number of events and activities
to mark the centenary. These include celebrating International Women's day and participating
in a wider civil service event bringing together former, current and future leaders
to discuss the important contributions women have made, and continue to make, in the
civil service.</p>
