star this property answer text <p>We have been clear that, under the Withdrawal Agreement, EU citizens in the UK on a pathway to settled status will continue to be able to access benefits after the end of the implementation period on the same basis that they can access them now. This broadly means equal access for workers and the self-employed and limited access for those not working. If these individuals go on to acquire settled status, they will then be able to access benefits on the same terms as comparable UK nationals.</p><p>Legal aid will continue to be available to all that meet the required criteria under the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO) and who require legal services that are within scope of LASPO.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p><strong></strong>We have agreed a fair financial settlement with the EU as part of the draft Withdrawal Agreement which reflects the UK paying its share of the outstanding EU commitments made during the period of our membership. Our estimate, based on reasonable assumptions and publically available data, falls within the range of £35bn-£39bn, and the National Audit Office confirmed in April 2018 that these assumptions were reasonable.</p><p>Details of the basis on which that figure was reached can be found in the draft Withdrawal Agreement, published on November 14th, 2018. The Chancellor of the Exchequer also provided details to the Treasury Select Committee in January 2018, including a breakdown of the components of the settlement.</p><p> </p><p><strong><strong></strong><br></strong></p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The European Council Decision, taken in agreement with the UK on 11 April, includes a duty of sincere cooperation in relation to the extension of Article 50. This includes reference to “the commitment by the United Kingdom to act in a constructive and responsible manner throughout the extension”. The full Decision can be found here: https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/press/press-releases/2019/04/10/20190410-european-council-decision-on-extension/.</p><p>If the Withdrawal Agreement has not been ratified by 22 May, we have a legal obligation to hold European Parliament elections as a Member State, as set out under EU treaties, and we will uphold these obligations. We have therefore already started making the necessary domestic preparations in order to prepare for this potential outcome. However, as the Prime Minister has said, we will make every effort to ensure the Withdrawal Agreement is ratified by 22 May so that we do not need to hold these elections.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Prime Minister has always been clear that our first priority is to reach agreement on the post-exit position of EU citizens now living in the UK and of UK nationals and living in other EU countries. The UK’s offer on citizens rights is set out in the policy paper “Safeguarding the position of EU citizens in the UK and UK nationals in the EU” and seeks to ensure that EU citizens in the UK retain their rights to residence, benefits and pensions, and access to services, including healthcare and education. It makes clear that the UK expects reciprocity for UK nationals living in the EU in return for its offer which we believe is a fair and serious one.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Prime Minister has been clear that we want to have reached an agreement about our future partnership, which includes citizens rights, by the time the two-year Article 50 process has ended in March 2019. star this property answer text <p>For the purpose of applying for citizenship, individuals will be required to meet the current eligibility criteria for naturalisation. These include a period of continuous residence, being of good character, and having sufficient knowledge of English and of life in the UK. A person who is married to or the civil partner of a British citizen can apply for naturalisation once settled; others must wait until they have been settled for 12 months.</p><p>Those who are already permanently resident in the UK will be able to apply for citizenship if they meet the statutory requirements.</p><p>Those who are not permanently resident must first apply for settled status. To do so, they must have been resident in the UK before a specified date and have completed a period of five years’ continuous residence. Once they are settled they can apply for British citizenship, if they meet the other statutory requirements.</p><p> </p> more like this
