star this property answer text <p>EU citizens who arrived and became resident before the specified date - which will be no earlier than 29 March 2017 and no later than the date of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU - but who have not accrued five years’ continuous residence at the time of the UK’s exit will be able to apply for temporary status in order to remain resident in the UK until they have accumulated five years, after which they will be eligible to apply for settled status.</p><p>EU citizens who arrived after the specified date will be allowed to remain in the UK for at least a temporary period and may become eligible to settle permanently, depending on their circumstances – but this will depend on the new immigration system.</p><p> </p> more like this

Our relationship with the European Union's agencies and bodies upon exit will be evaluated on this basis.</p><p>The Government will always look to minimise disruption and costs, which will include considering alternative options. In most cases we anticipate that repatriated EU functions can be absorbed by departments and existing public bodies.</p><p>We will continue to plan for a range of scenarios and be ready to take any necessary steps to ensure that we are ready for exit day.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK and EU negotiating teams have agreed a time-limited implementation period, the terms of which were endorsed by the remaining 27 EU Member States at the March European Council (22-23 March). Common rules will remain in place until the end of the period meaning business will be able to trade on the same terms as now up until the end of 2020. These terms will not change.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The Government welcomes the comments made by business groups such as the British Chambers of Commerce who have acknowledged that “while some companies would have liked to see copper-bottomed legal guarantees around the transition, the political agreement reached in Brussels is sufficient for most businesses to plan ahead with a greater degree of confidence.”</p><p> </p><p>Ministers and officials will continue to engage extensively with businesses and regulators to ensure that businesses can plan with certainty for the future.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Government published a technical paper on customs setting out the UK’s proposal for a temporary customs arrangement between the UK and EU as a backstop solution for the Northern Ireland and Ireland land border, that would only come into force in specific and narrow circumstances. It is in line with Joint Report commitments on avoiding a hard border and maintaining the constitutional integrity of the UK.</p><p>It remains the UK’s intention to negotiate an overall economic relationship with the EU that avoids the need for this backstop.</p><p>Michel Barnier confirmed that he had not rejected the UK’s proposals. Discussions on the temporary customs arrangements have already begun and we look forward to making progress.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>As the Prime Minister has made clear, on leaving the EU, the UK will also be leaving the Single Market and the Customs Union. The Future Partnership paper ‘Future Customs Arrangements’, published last year, put forward two proposed approaches for the UK’s future customs relationship with the EU.<br><br></p><p>One is a highly streamlined customs arrangement, and the other is a new customs partnership. <br><br></p><p>The precise form of any new agreement will be the subject of negotiation.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Both the Government and the Commission have been clear that a time-limited implementation period is negotiable. Such a period is in the interests of both businesses and individuals in the UK and the EU. The Commission has published their Directives which provide a mandate to negotiate such a period and both sides have set out a legal text for that agreement.</p><p> </p><p>It is in the interests of both the UK and the EU to agree the precise terms of this period as quickly as possible, in order to provide vital certainty to businesses and citizens. We are approaching these negotiations in good faith, as indeed is the EU, and are confident we can reach an agreement.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>My Department continues to engage with businesses and representative organisations to understand their priorities and concerns as we leave the European Union.</p><p>Delivering the deal negotiated with the EU remains our top priority and is the best way of avoiding a no deal scenario. However, until MPs have voted to approve the deal, and with 11 weeks until we leave the EU, we will continue to prepare for every eventuality. That is the responsible thing to do.</p><p>We are clear that the UK will aim to minimise disruption for businesses in the short term, in a no deal scenario.</p><p>We’ve published 106 technical notices, which provide important information for businesses and, following Cabinet’s agreement before Christmas, will provide further detailed guidance for businesses over the coming weeks.</p><p> </p> more like this
