	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/02/2021 answer text <p>Local authorities already have a number of powers available to them to tackle air pollution – for example powers to tackle idling and smoke emissions from domestic chimneys.</p><p> </p><p>The Environment Bill will improve the local air quality management framework to enable greater local action on air pollution by ensuring that responsibility for addressing air pollution is shared across a wider range of partners. We are amending the Local Air Quality Management Framework so that it brings in neighbouring authorities and where relevant, the Environment Agency, and can be extended to include additional relevant public authorities.</p><p> </p><p>Through the Environment Bill we are also making it easier for local authorities to use their existing powers to tackle a major contributor to fine particulate matter emissions – domestic solid fuel burning, and are expanding the scope of the power for local authorities to enable them to tackle smoke emissions from vessels within a smoke control area.</p> answering member constituency Taunton Deane answering member printed Rebecca Pow question first answered 17/02/2021 14:57:55 answering member 4522 label Biography information for Rebecca Pow

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/10/2023 answer text <p>Defra and DESNZ officials continue to work closely to coordinate anaerobic digestion (AD) policy, working with ministers where required.</p><p> </p><p>The Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS) launched in 2021, provides tariff-support for biomethane produced via AD and injected into the gas grid. Under the GGSS, at least 50% of all biomethane (by energy content) must be produced using waste or residue feedstocks. In line with scheme guidance, AD site operators should ensure that the waste hierarchy has been applied and alternative markets have been considered before using any waste feedstocks for AD. The Government has responded with an unprecedented £4.3 billion support package for local authorities. This includes £3.7 billion of un-ringfenced grants which can be used by councils to meet local priorities including, should they see fit, cleaning up beaches and local beauty spots.</p><p> </p><p>Defra has also supported, and provided funding for, Keep Britain Tidy's Love Parks campaign, which encourages people to treat our parks with respect this summer. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/09/2023 answer text <p>When the Canal and River Trust (C&amp;RT) was set up in 2012 to replace British Waterways, the Government agreed to provide an annual grant totalling around £740 million over a 15-year period up to 2027 as the charity established itself. At the time the Government and the C&amp;RT agreed in a Memorandum of Understanding on 28 June 2012 that the C&amp;RT would progressively reduce reliance on Government grant funding.</p><p> </p><p>The Government recently agreed to provide the C&amp;RT with a further £400 million grant over ten years from 2027, while encouraging the C&amp;RT to increase income from alternative sources and reduce reliance on taxpayer funding as an independent charity, consistent with the original strategic intent.
