unstar this property answer text <p>As I said in my answer to PQ HL7316 on 5 April this year, air quality monitoring data collected in and around Heathrow Airport is presented on the Heathrow AirWatch website which is funded via a joint working partnership consisting of Heathrow Airport Ltd, London Boroughs of Hillingdon and Hounslow, Slough and Spelthorne Borough Councils and British Airways. It is managed by the consultant Ricardo Energy and Environment.</p><p> </p><p>Two local monitoring sites are included in the Government’s national monitoring network (the Automatic Urban and Rural Network). All national air quality monitoring data is available on the Government’s UK-Air website.</p><p> </p><p>The two monitoring sites are London Hillingdon which is located in a suburban residential area approximately 30 metres from the M4 motorway and London Harlington which is located close to a minor road to the east of Harlington village.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The UK government has committed to work towards no food waste being sent to landfill by 2030 in its Clean Growth Strategy, published in October 2017. 113 local authorities out of 326 in England currently offer a separate food waste collection service and we encourage all local authorities to consider introducing separate food waste collection when opportunities arise to include these in collection contracts.</p><p> </p><p>In the 25 Year Environment Plan, we committed to working to support an increase in the number of councils with separate food waste collections. We will outline our plans for this in our Resources and Waste Strategy, which will be published this autumn. This will include how we will fulfil our commitments to the circular economy package where bio-waste including food waste recycling must be offered for households.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise the energy generation potential of food waste, when collected separately and sent to anaerobic digestion (AD), though we need to be conscious of some of the unintended consequences for air pollution that can arise.</p><p> </p><p>We will consider the recommendations of the 2018 National Infrastructure Assessment in the development of the Resources and Waste Strategy.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>There are 25 species of bumblebee resident in the UK, including the short-haired bumblebee which is currently being re-introduced under Natural England’s Species Recovery Programme.</p><p> </p><p>In 2014 Defra published independent research on the status of pollinators in the UK. The study identified an overall decline in wild bee diversity over the last 50 years. This concluded that bumblebee species that have become less widespread are associated with the loss of flower-rich habitat, driven by changes in agricultural land use and urbanisation.</p><p> </p><p>Both Environmental Stewardship and now the new Countryside Stewardship schemes fund the provision of food and habitat for wild pollinators. The new scheme in particular incorporates a Wild Pollinator and Farm Wildlife package which provides year-round food, winter shelter and nesting places essential for pollinators.</p><p> </p><p>Although honeybees face many of these environmental pressures their population is driven by the number of beekeepers willing and able to keep bees. There is some evidence that the number of beekeepers, and therefore the number of honey bees, may have increased since 2009 as more keepers are registered on the National Bee Unit’s BeeBase and with beekeeping associations.</p>

The Terms of Reference for the Tree Champion, published on 13 June, set out that Sir William Worsley will:</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li><p>Support the introduction of a new duty for local councils to consult before felling street trees;</p></li><li><p>Support the Government to deliver its objective of planting 1m urban trees by 2022;</p></li><li><p>Bring together Mayors, city leaders, and other key players across government to promote the value of trees and promote local authorities development of comprehensive Tree and Woodland Strategies;</p></li><li><p>Explore how local authorities can improve their reporting on tree felling and re-planting, and</p></li><li><p>Encourage more effective approaches to tree management that promote and preserve the benefits of street trees while managing the health and safety risks of diseased trees</p><p> </p><p>Since his appointment, Sir William Worsley has requested information from officials on tree felling in Sheffield.</p><p> </p><p>Separately, the Forestry Commission is currently investigating the tree felling being undertaken by Sheffield City Council as part of the Streets Ahead programme using powers to control tree felling as set out in Part II of the Forestry Act 1967. We are not able to provide any further information on this investigation whilst it is ongoing.</p></li></ul><p> </p>
