answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/05/2019 answer text <p>A successful strategy for eradicating bovine TB involves addressing all routes of spread of infection, including cattle-to-cattle, cattle-to-badger, badger-to-badger and badger-to-cattle.</p><p> </p><p>As part of the Government’s 25 year bovine TB eradication strategy, we are taking strong action to eradicate the disease and protect the future of our dairy and beef industries, with emphasis on detecting infection early in cattle herds, containing and removing it as quickly as possible, and tighter biosecurity. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/05/2019 answer text <p>The Government’s priority is to protect people and the environment, and pesticides are only authorised if scientific evidence shows that they will not harm human health or have unacceptable effects on the environment.</p><p> </p><p>We carry out a thorough assessment of the scientific evidence, drawing on advice from scientists in the Health and Safety Executive and the UK Expert Committee on Pesticides. Both I and the Secretary of State are engaging with the RPA to improve the process and I have regular contact with the Rural Payments Agency’s (RPA) Chief Executive. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/03/2019 answer text <p>The Government set out in the 25 Year Environment Plan, published in January 2018, its commitment to reform the packaging producer responsibility system. Our Resources and Waste Strategy was published in December 2018 and contains details on how we will do this, including measures to incentivise packaging producers to make better, more sustainable decisions at the design stage and point of manufacture. Through replacing the current system with Extended Producer Responsibility we will require producers to fund the full net cost of managing the packaging they place on the market, once it becomes waste. These measures will provide a strong incentive to producers to reduce the amount of packaging they use and to make packaging that is more easily collected and recycled. The proposals are open to consultation until 13 May 2019 and can be found here: <a href="https://consult.defra.gov.uk/environmental-quality/consultation-on-reforming-the-uk-packaging-produce/" target="_blank">https://consult.defra.gov.uk/environmental-quality/consultation-on-reforming-the-uk-packaging-produce/</a>.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has also committed in the Resources and Waste Strategy to review the effectiveness of the Packaging (Essential Requirements) Regulations 2015 by the end of 2020. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/02/2019 answer text <p>The Government encourages the highest standards of animal welfare and would prefer all animals to be stunned before slaughter, but respects the rights of Jews and Muslims to eat meat prepared in accordance with their beliefs.</p><p> </p><p>The European Council Regulation 1099/2009, on the protection of animals at the time of killing sets out the main requirements for slaughter including a requirement that all animals are stunned by a permitted method before slaughter. The EU Regulation includes a derogation from stunning for religious slaughter but also allows individual Member States to impose stricter national rules for religious slaughter.
